He's 33 and plays/looks even older, and I was laughing when Liverpool seemed in for him and that view isn't going away just because he's signing for us.

Very unconvinced - seems a desperate signing in the way of Ginola/Gascoigne in that he's a player who looked by and large terrible at Chelsea and is living on past glories. The odds on a sudden renaissance and appetite for the game are slim.

But let's see what happens...
He got nearly 1 in 2 in the PL last season with another 4 assists. He's a World star who we'll have as our backup striker ffs.

I despair at times

He's back up for Lukaku and could he have a better striker to learn from in Eto? Great player, Won everything and has vast experience from all over Europe

I think its a shrewd signing, Will give everyone a lift at the club and is a good option off the bench

Will be one of the highest paid players at the club for that back up role. Hey, could be great, who knows, but I'm not a guy who automatically goes against players because of their age (I was delighted at Barry arriving more than I was at Lukaku last season, for example) but the issue with Eto'o is that this isn't a guy still doing the business at the top level and simply moved out of favour as he hasn't looked top class since his Inter days about four years ago.

It'd be a different story if this was a guy taking £40k a week as he is definitely an asset, but for the money involved here... I dunno.

Weird thing is, he'll obviously suit the system we play a lot more than Lukaku ever will - but that's dependent on him wanting to turn up or if he has anything left in the legs. Even a slightly sub-prime Eto'o would be great, but I genuinely don't believe he's 33, I'm with Mourinho on this.

Going to be honest Tubey, I couldn't give two you no what about his wages, I'm not paying them

Oh I understand this POV (he outperformed Ba and Torres but given how Mourinho used his strikers that wasn't hard to do!) but my immediate question is how much is he on with us and where other options considered, as I can't imagine he'll be anything but one of the top three highest paid at the club and is the role he's coming in for enough to justify that salary position for two years? I guess we'll see, but I personally can't get excited by it, as I remember this exact sort of signing with Ginola and Gascoigne in the dark days.

12 goals in 34 games for Chelsea with 6 assists

Very good return imo as a load of those games he would have been a sub

Chelsea strikers under Jose very rarely score bags full

Loving this. Would be a great alternative to Lukaku, he has a proven pedigree in the PL and Europe. Might even pass on some of his striking wisdom to the younger players (Lukaku included). Seems a win/win. That he won't be playing every game should mean his legs will last the season without any problems.

Surely the most successful player to have ever played for us by a huge margin?
