Transfer Rumour Ryan Fraser

I did a quick search of 'Ryan Fraser skills' earlier and was actually pleasantly surprised: a couple of really good compilations of what he can offer, including one of him snorting an entire jar's worth of nutmeg out of a used Irn Bru bottle while two of his first cousins discussed which of their children were most likely his. Lots of striking dribbling on display there.

Of course he sees us as his best option, or more likely his agent does. Only Arsenal of the top 6 will touch him. And I think they aren’t flush with money.

So his agent is thinking Everton will pay you 100k. Had Newcastle been bought out already, you can guarantee their name would be in the mix.

I’d be seriously pissed with Brands and think what’s the point, if he goes anywhere near this time bandit

....sounds like he’s very keen on us, but I imagine we’ll be very selective in what positions we reinforce and another right footed left winger might not be a priority.

Thats my impression here. In no particular order here are some things I'd note;
1) He clearly hasnt got a deal "in the bag" for either Tottenham/Arsenal who have been linked
2) I've seen some Liverpool shouts. I could barely think of a player less suited to playing in that system. They dont play a 10, or require wide players who rely on intelligence rather than pace.
3) On point 1, we might speculate that both Arsenal/Spurs have very little money available, and commitments they have made may be getting rowed back on.
4) We have seen Brands begin to use the late contract/out of contract options quite well.
5) He looks to be offering Silva around 40% of what he currently earns. So the market, and particularly Brands negotiation will be wages will likely be squeezed.
6) I think Brands is keener than Ancelotti on the deal.

My reading is, the offers he thought he'd have at Arsenal/Spurs aren't there and is interested to see if we can make him a proposal. I dont think this summer is going to be the bumper time for OOC players as it had been in previous years. Falling wages and probably an abundance of players available on loan, without clubs, or for very low fees will be high.

Brands shouldn’t be keener as its about building a squad, he’s talked about the size of our squad and what he would like to get it down to. We don’t need more wide players unless we sell Bernard/iwobi.

And I would rather us go and get top quality instead of bog standard. And if the money isn’t there, then leave it for a season and give Iwobi and Gordon time next season. And look at the situation in 12 months

I’ve looked at the squad and including fringe youngsters we could get rid of 21 players this summer, buy maybe 6 and still have a very competitive squad. And save about 20mil in wages

FWIW , here's my contribution.

He is a pretty ordinary but established PL player who had a good season the year before last.

He would be able to play in a 442 system preferred by Carlo .

He gives natural width and works back defensively and chips in with the odd goal.

He hasn't got any power or pace but has / had a decent engine.

On a free with reasonable wages he's fine as a squad player.

From an FFP point of view it makes sense if you sell Bernard and save a chunk of his wages.

I would be very underwhelmed and really don't see him as the sort of signing that takes us to a higher level.

If we took him it would tell me that we have very limited funds that we are perhaps saving for Allan or someone like him.

Everyone seems very focused on having a right winger with pace. We may well adopt having two players in each side who come inside a bit and play them from the right? Maybe Iwobi plays off the right?

What you say is probably fair though. I think hes a good signing, but probably not what we need currently.

If funds are tigher than normal - it would make absolute sense to bring in Fraser on a free and either sell Iwobi or loan him out with an option to sell the following season for say £20 million.

Bernard/Fraser would be decent options on the left which allows us to spend money on 2x CM's, RW, RB & CB which are essential areas to upgrade in.

How do we know anybody at the club is keen on the deal?

It will all come down to money and maybe using Richarlison, as a player who can fill a few roles. I hope he stays upfront personally, but if the right sided player we want is not available this summer, then maybe we buy a striker and move Richarlison.

With a few links, most mean nothing I know. To Hwang, depay, schick yesterday. This way you could sell Bernard and use his wages and fee elsewhere.

So we would have Walcott on the right, iwobi/Gordon left. 3 strikers. And Richarlison who can play across all 3 positions. Not ideal I know, but if Brands needs to be creative, it’s possible

Bernard wouid be sold before iwobi, he’s 27 was on a free, higher wages and not even that good . No way we are getting 28mil back on iwobi,

I’d rather have iwobi and Gordon down the left next season.
