Rule Change

Opponent's midfielders will chase the keeper like the d-line does for qb in 'murican hand ball and at the same time keeper's wing backs will be sprinting like hell towards half-way line. Hail Mary, hut hut.

Stupid rule.

That will just lead to another rule banning the closing down of the keeper. There will be something like a 10-yard barrier akin to a free kick wall.

If the keeper holds it for longer than 5 seconds you should be allowed to kick at the ball as recklessly as you want without it being a foul and if you take out the keeper he cannot be subbed for 15 minutes.

I also have an idea about dousing the ball in petrol and setting it in fire for free kicks but that might be for another thread.

Something else that stinks about this - the ball boy/girl rules, about interfering with play during throw ins. Where once there was some urgency pitch side, now there's rules to not be involved but only place the spare ball on the cone and that's that.

Now if the 8 second GK rule is being implemented to incentivise live in game ball in play entertainment, what's to stop a keeper wellying the ball out of the stands repeatedly?

It'll enforcer for about 10 matches, then it'll fade away.
No doubt it will be enforced against us first before getting abandoned indeed...this rule will only help the top teams. It is already difficult to compete against the top teams, they are making it more difficult. At which point does the countdown starts? As soon as keeper catches the ball?

Quite, if the keeper makes a save and collects the ball whilst lay on the deck, does the clock start then or when he's stood up? We'll end up with a Union type situation of some players 'Jackling' - then crying off to the refs about time limits.

In fact, can see a few punch ups occurring when attackers pressure keepers and CB's have to get involved.

Reminds me of one match in the summer cottage during mid-summer fest back in late 90's. If memory serves, fire croquet was the next event...

Give it will be (or should be) treated as a foul, I fully expect goalkeepers to receive yellow cards on their second offence in each game. It's a deliberate act (such as a last-man foul), so you can accept one act of leniency by the referee with a verbal warning, then a booking the second time they refuse to follow the rule. Obviously not for the big clubs.

Pickford picks up ball
Waits 7 secs
Lobs it to Tarkowski
Who heads it back - not a back pass
Bingo
Another 8 secs
Rinse and repeat
Somewhere in the deepest chasms of Dyche's brain, the idea of head and hold drills splutters out in a new way to bore the fans of his next club.
