i do wonder if that excellent match , one of the best ever at a RWC for me, will take a lot out of the Boks , but their strength in depth is the best of all the RWC starting nations, with some outside last nights 23 capable of starting for other teams. I loved their innovations too, from the Call “ Mark” ask for a scrum , to the beauty of the Etzebeth try. There were so many options open to them , three players dummy a tap, move away and form a pod , tap taken and passed to the pod , recycled quickly and Etzebeth powering over with brute force . Cheslin Kolbe charging down a conversion seemed almost normal in the context of the match.

That’s the thing… besides Eben getting a 10 minute breather in the game, subs were made early with Kolisi going off, Libbok.. Duane and PST came on and off with the head stuff.. Faf played 35 mins.

This Bok team is fit and prides on using the full 80 minutes to win. Yesterday the changes showed they cared just as much about who they finished with as who they started with.

As long as no injuries they will be good to go

Incredible strength in depth , and while the focus is usually on the forwards there are some very talented backs who didn’t even make the 23 like Canan Moodie and Am . I’m not sure if Am is match fit , Moodie is a huge talent for one so young and will only get better , but in most other teams you’d have them starting.

Shame to lose Ireland and France in the quarters. Those two games would've made an epic semi-final pairing followed by a clash of titans then in the final.

Still, an All Black v SA final could be very tasty indeed. Hard to look beyond SA again now at this point.

….had a little bet on SAF at the end of that yellow card suspension. France were odds-on but hadn’t extended their lead with an extra man. Tense but it played out well.
Well spotted. I did a 4 timer on the Blacks, the Books, both at 11/10 and Fiji +8 at evens. Wales blew the bet up though the useless turds!

Should be a mighty final Books v Blacks. England can resume hostilities with the Argies for third place if there is such a match.

I seem to remember that four years ago everybody was predicting a South Africa v All Blacks final , then England turned up for the semi final after being written off and beat the ABs. This SA team is better than the ABs back then, and England certainly have a worse team so I wouldn’t put money on England winning ……but heh, it’s knock out rugby , a missed timed tackle hits a head , a miss placed pass let’s a speedy winger in . That’s the beauty of this RWC !

And then everyone thought England would roll SA easily in the final and instead, they were comfortably beaten.

Only 1 favourite won their group this time around. Only 1 favourite won 1 in the QF’s as well.

I wouldn’t rule this England team out as easily as many are. I’ve been very vociferous that I think SA will win the whole thing and I’ve said that right from the off but I do think England are improving a lot, they’ve had a bit of an easier run and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the game is a lot closer than people think. I also think despite me believing SA are the best side in it, and they’ll win it, they suit England a bit more than France would have.

If England were playing NZ I would fancy them to spring a surprise.

NZ were good v Ireland but I don’t think they were great and that was this average NZ side (by there standards) at their very best, I don’t think they’ve got any more to give and I’m not sure they can even maintain that level.

I think SA will beat NZ by 20 points plus if they meet them in the final.

Unchanged Springbok team to play England.. actually surprised … but shows SA not taking England for granted at all.. Rassie has a clear idea of his starting/closing 15 ..
Thought he might change Willie for Am but nope…

Still the strongest bench of any team left even without Am , who , despite being a fine centre, I guess has had little game time recently. As a neutral Im looking forward to it , I expect both teams to have something different up their sleeves they’ve kept back.
