I was pretty sure though. I've always thought they were wiped post-January. In fact I'm very sure and I will remain so until someone posts some genuine facts that state otherwise (i.e. actual rules from the FA).
According to the FA Disciplinary Rules
if a player receives 5 cautions between
the first day of the season and 31st
December they will be suspended for
a period of 1 match .
If a player receives a 5th caution after
the 31st December they will be
warned as to their future conduct.
If a player receives 10 cautions
between the first day of the season
and the second Sunday in April they
will be suspended for a period of 2
matches.
Players from the Premier League have
benefited from the change to the date
of the yellow card amnesty with the
cut off date for five cautions now
reduced to 31 December.
Previously, players collecting five
yellow cards prior to the final day in
February were subject to a one-match
suspension.
