Ross used to come deep all the time to collect the ball in a Rooney-esque way. He wanted to control the game.

Don't think Ross drops anywhere near as deep as Rooney presently does, mostly because he's still got the pace to want to play higher up the pitch in a slightly more isolated position.

If a player is absolutely adamant that he wants to move and has a good offer on the table to play for another club, then in this day and age we're helpless to stop him if he's out (or soon to be out) of contract.

No doubt we'll try again to convince him, after the departure of Koeman, but no player is bigger than the club.

He's at his best when dropping deep to make things work, especially when he has the space to make driving runs from deep.

He's a good player who makes us better. It would be a nice surprise if he decided to re-sign.

But if he doesn't want to play for Everton and is deliberately running down his contract, then I don't want him here. We'll know for sure in the next 6 weeks or so.
