Ross Barkley

I don't think I heard his name mentioned once, either during the build up to the game or the match itself. It's as if he wasnt even in the squad.
Talksport have been banging on about him for weeks now tbf. All of their more knowledgable football men say he should be starting for England and they even had Harry Redknapp on saying England should be building a team around Barkley and Delle Ali.

Livermore, Ward Prowse, Lingard and Redmond all getting a game over him. Just LOL at England.

Should just leg England and just have a week off.
It is a joke like. Another thing that pees me off is Dele Alli getting mom. Don't get me wrong. I love watching the kid play. I think he has great skill and awareness. I also love the fact that he tries something different in the final third. Sometimes it doesnt come off and we lose the ball. I saw him give the ball away at least 10 times last night and he gets mom and praise from his manager. Imagine if that was Ross.

Tbf he played a lot of football under Southgate in the youth set up so I was looking at it as more of a case of him being rested for Sunday because Southgate already knows what he's about. I'm glad he didn't play in a meaningless friendly in which he could've
A: picked up an injury
B: made a mistake and been grilled by the media and lost confidence which has been slowly built back up over the last few months
Think he hardly played under Southall mate. Played for U20s then full team. Only ever remember him coming on as sub against Scotland for 21s.

I actually think that may be part if the problem. Lingard Ward Prowse and Redmond are all his boys and he knows he can trust them.

I thought Alli was absolutely plop last night. Didn't see him.do anything except shoot straight at the keeper

Right. Dont listen to Talksport much. Been watching Sky all week and theres been Zilch. Not even a question during PCs. Then not a mention on TV coverage last night. Even after we went behind. Thought it totally weird tbh.

I agree that we should ve building a team around Alli and Barkley. Completely different players who can compliment each other. I like the 3 at the back formation too although slightly off topic.

I like him as a player. Think he's really clever but gives ball away loads as he did last night Dont have a problem with that if 50% of the time it turns into a goal/chance. My gripe is Ross isnt given same leeway. Imagine if it was Ross who missed that sitter last night.

Fair enough. I actually rate a few on Talksport as knowledgable and never watch Sky because apart from Carragher and Neville for analysis I think they're all awful at their jobs so that'll be why we have different opinions on that :)

I think three at the back really suits England too especially as it gives the like of Delle Ali and hopefully Ross more security to express themselves.

On an Everton note I hope that Ross does get picked for England on Sunday because I would say not progressing his international career whilst here is the only real reason I imagine him not wanting to stay.

Do you do a fair amount of driving mate. I dont you see. I'm semi retired and work from home so it suits me to watch SSN rather than listen to radio.

Agree re Ross. Despite what us fans think England is very important to him. I just think Southgate doesn't trust him yet. He's never really managed him so he's playing the ones he trusts. I personally believe thats a bit blinkered as hes one if the most in form players of any nationality in the premier. I hope I'm wrong but I cant see him playing Sunday.

Yeah mate, keeps me sane on the commute!

I think that's one thing that we forget as fans. I don't really care about England and probably haven't been excited watching them since Euro 96 tbh but as a player it's still got to be the pinnacle of your career getting to be first choice for your country so that's why I want him to play in every competitive match for England asap. Southgate giving the likes of Keane and Livermore a crack in the friendly gives me hope that he's gonna pick by form and not by media rep so fingers crossed!

I think Southgate whilst seemingly uninspiring, knows the former u21s very very well and he's actually quite an inventive coach. If you want Barkley in the national side it bodes well for him.

He really, really, really, really, really isn't.

At all.

Ever.
On the basis of last night, I saw him accommodate and utilise most of the form English players in the league irrespective of reputation and play a quick moving and high pressing game that matched a decent rather than great German side in Germany. The next Guardiola he may not be but he's done alright for me so far.

He's certainly an improvement on the recent clowns we've had as England boss! He's made some bold calls already like leaving Rooney out completely (right call on form) and moving to three at the back (right call on players available and what a lot of our players play at club level (Cahill, Walker etc.) and the high press and fast pace game is a must because international teams are not as used to the pace of the premier league as all of our players are who all play it week in week out.

I wonder if today's news on the ground might help us when it comes to Ross and Romalu and us wanting them to sign extensions. We are working hard as a club on all aspects of it, it will take time but we're making progress and we need those two to be part of the future.
Rom talks about ambition, to me this is part of the clubs ambition but will these two see it like that? I hope so, playing in the CL will come, playing in one of the countries finest stadiums a few times a month has to be attractive
