Ross Barkley

Consistency is his overriding problem even games where he's overall done well ,he still fades in and out. Also he still has a frustrating habit of doing the hard work then not seeing the final pass or shot. But I still believe he is improving game by game this season and will be close to the player we hoped for by this time next year.
Agreed. Thought he looked very good vs the Hull Tigers.

for me until we sort the rest of the team around him out we will never see the best of him. players in the current team are being hindered by having to cover ground for the less mobile players such as barry and jags. its a shame for them as they are both top professionals and have been good for the club but we have to move forward with a team of players that have the energy for the game and will offer better support for the team. we cant have players compensating what they should do to ensure they dont leave other exposed because they are no longer up to the task.

Ross must be benefitting from having the wise old heads of Gaz Baz and Captain Jags around him. The latter is still a key player in the mighty Three Lions squad and Gaz's PL appearances speak for themselves.
Important that we keep those two to continue to provide Ross the guidance he needs. He's still young- barely out of his teens- and the inspiration he must get from playing alongside two legends of the game, should never be lightly dismissed.

PS I'd love to see Gibbo on the pitch with Ross as well...another Everton legend

Just seen the match of the day clip with Steve gerrard and Steve mcmanaman talking about Ross.
Too true! Needs our support.

They are spot on. Too much pointing fingers and we need to support him. 4 or 5 signings (with legs) then you would see a better Ross. Cannot carry all expectations on his shoulders he needs better players around him to see the true talent of Ross. We need more options in front of him to be able to expand his range of passing and not have players willingly shackled by defenders calling for the ball. Comes down to the lack of movement that this team has that reduces options for any play maker

If only Phil Neville were still here... the trifecta of P Nev, Gaz baz and Gibbo would be an inspiration to Barkley he'd soon be playing out of his skin in every game.

Agreed, he is even winning tackles too - he won the ball leading to the second equaliser at Hull - did the same for the Lukaku goal at Leicester.

I still hold out hope for Ross,he's got the talent,I think he'll progress with Schneiderlin alongside him. Our midfield is shocking and I think Ross comes in for some unfair criticism because of it.

The fans have been out of order at times with Barkley, getting on his back at the slightest of mistakes but in the second half of last season and most of this one, he's deserved criticism.

He's not that young anymore, he's been in the league for 3 or or 4 years now and he's not working hard enough and is still making schoolboy mistakes.

Why should he be cut any slack for laziness, lack of aggression, shirking aerial challenges, backing out of 50/50s and not bothering to track back? Are other players allowed to ignore those parts of their game? Lukaku gets rightly criticised for not doing those things and he too is 23.

Of course the fans need to get behind him, but he also needs to put in 100% effort for the fans to cut him some slack. I'm sick of watching him amble round half hearted letting players run past him. It's unacceptable. And that's before mentioning the many weaknesses he has in possession of the ball which I do think he has the mentality to change as he is a far better player on the ball than off it.

He needs to realise hes the best player on the pitch every time he plays, he should be owning games, he should slow down when on the ball and ask the opposition players more questions, i dont think hes a ten i would have him at 8 myself, but he needs to learn control in his game.

It would be a crime if he didnt fulfil his talent or rather realise his talent at Everton.

I think he needs more quality around him before he can be fairly judged, just hope it's in an Everton shirt and not Chelsea or Manure. I don't know the lad, so it's totally out of order to say it, but he looks to me like he's a sandwich short sometimes.
