Ross Barkley

20 chances created by Ross so far this season. Most in the club. 5th best in the league.
8 more than the next closest player. Imagine if he was actually playing well.

Lukaku has 12, Bolasie 11. Gueye 9 as is Mirallas with 9.

Why is it that Ross is getting overly criticised, yet Mirallas who is supposed to be at his very peak gets a free pass despite going utterly AWOL this season.

Mirallas has been dropped for The Clev, you dont get any greater punishment than that.

20? Those stats in count corners mate.... I don't class taking a corner as "creating a chance"

Going on that logic... if I played for Everton and got out on corners I would create about 40 chances a season... and I'm crap

Others in the league will be putting in corners and free kicks too.
He's still at the top...
A goal is a goal, created from a corner or not. To say otherwise is pure Roberto Martinez.

Lol at rank average.

This forum is laughable at times, we really do have some absolute belters here but I guess that's to be expected on a footy forum.

It's like there is no middle ground, he's either rank average or world class.

I'd say average is a good description. Sometimes he's good, sometimes he's bad. Therefore average, as are most players in the premiership.

The 'rank' bit contradicts average tho. He can't be poor and average, unless some games he was awesome average? In which case he's just average?

I've confused myself again :coffee:.

I beg to differ...

imagine being replaced by this man ;)

The thing is he isn't a N10 and never has been.

He needs to play deeper. He doesn't lose the ball when he has the pitch infront of him and runs with it. He loses it when he has his back to the goal, playing in a crowded part of the pitch.

Many here may of noticed (and disagreed) that I have a lot of complaints regarding ross lately, mainly his stupid side steps and 'arrogance' when on the ball.

Friday seemed to be a lot better, a lot of his passes were early and also played forward. When I moaned he doesn't do the basics, he was fine on Friday, even threw in a few tackles ! He didn't deserve to be taken off IMO especially when Cleverley was still on the pitch.

Imagine having all the hopes and dreams of an entire fan base on your shoulders because you are the only local lad left and then imaging being 22 and having to deal with it as well as everyone trying to change your natural game to be a team player.

I reckon that would be a huge weight for everyone and the lad looks like he's feeling it, should lay off him or take him out of the firing line for a bit because the insults and grief are not helping in any way shape or form.

I agree over all he had a good game.

I'm a big fan, but he did lose his head a bit after they scored - and their goal all came about from Ross playing a stupid short free-kick, and then losing possession.

So if we somehow win more 100 corners and ross takes them all... and does absolutley nothing else... that's would mean he is more creative than silva, ozil?

If we're winning another hundred corners and creating chances from them I don't see any issue whatsoever. Firstly to win a corner you have to be a threat in and around the opposition box.
A chance is a chance.
Goal is a goal. Goals come from chances
Goals win matches. More chances = more chances at scoring a goal.
More chances = more chance at winning a match.
Simple math.

The point I'm making is... using ross " created stats" to defend his crap performances , is clutching at straws... he's taking corners that it... and not very good ones... how can anyone believe he created 7 chances against palace? A game where the only chance we created all game was by bolasie for gueye to miss?

I can think of several different occasions mate right off the top of my head. Lukaku lays off to Coleman, Coleman blazes over. Barkley slides Coleman in, that's a shot on goal. Bolasie crosses back post to Lukaku. E.t.c. e.t.c.
I also think his delivery from corners has been pretty good, got the ball onto a head a number of times throughout the game. Have you even watched our corners over the last few years? A world away with regards to putting the ball in good areas for people to attack.
Seems you have an agenda against Ross.

I really think we should be looking to play him deeper, he's at his best with room to run into, with space to shoot and spreadp passes.

he's very poor in traffic, and in the no10 role you need to excel in traffic. like a mata or an ozil
