a couple of times at the edge of the box, you could almost literally SEE Ross thinking what to do with the ball. Baines bombing down the left, wide open, Ross sees and doesn't pass to him for about a second a half. Not that it's a HUGE amount of time, but that should be instinctual for him. Honestly don't know if it's a case of wanting to do too much, being afraid of what happens of doing too much, or just not having that little something special that separates the Lampard/Gerrard's of the footballing world from the rest.

Really hope it's the former and not the latter. From what I could see it also looked like he went back to his 'nah, ball is 3 yards away, don't bother' work ethos as well.

He used to win the ball a lot in Martinez first season... Until bobby told him he didn't need to do it anymore.... Or run.... Or head... And basically said to walk around the pitch like he was zidane

Mismanaged for most of his career so far.. there's a supremely talented player in there but he'll need his bad habits training out of him. Koeman is the man to do this.

Sorry just cant agree. He certainly does not have all the attributes. He cant tackle or head a ball for a starter. But if the argument is he s outstanding at other aspects of the game and that makes up for his shortcomings i dont see it. Slows the game down..gets caught in possession.. plays the wrong pass at the wrong time..etc. dont see any clubs lining up to buy him either.

Beckham couldn't tackle, head or shoot very well. Had no pace and couldn't really dribble.

This isn't really true.

There are a bunch of people that think booing the lad and saying he's crap and doesn't deserve a place in the team are being shortsighted and harsh. I don't think anyone is saying he's been amazing and brilliant this season. Just that yesterday was particularly bad, and that he's been decent, is 22 and has the potential to be a world beater.

Players need to play, experience, and learn...some need to do this longer than others. Ross is a kid. There is a contingent ready to cut their losses with him and a contingent that is more patient. And of course there is wild hyperbole in both directions when he does particularly well or poorly.

Not everything has to be an extreme.

The book is very much not written on Ross's career. Here's hoping he gains some consistency, conviction, and improves his decision making. If so, he'll be brilliant. If not, well, c'est la vie.

I honestly don't see the hyper-positive support you are alluding to unless he has a smashing game, but that's true of every player we have. The moment they play well they're the next <insert great positional player here> (see: Del = Ronaldo).

But maybe it's different with people in person?

He's been terribly managed up til now. Between Warnock, Moyes, Hodgson and, (most particularly), the egregiously dire Martinez, he's suffered awful tutelage.
That he's still pretty damn good attests to his innate talent.
RK will be Barkley's salvation avenue toward attaining the heights of that innate talent.

Its all a matter of opinion and Ross gets stick from time to time (like most players do). He wasn't great in the 1st half on Monday and Koeman did what he is paid to do. He saw it and acted (and on this occasion it worked). But he's done ok in the other matches. Its in his powers to show what he's all about. In my opinion he's got the talent. When he gets the ball I sit up. We should still back him as he's a "diamond".

I think he was very poor on Monday but that'll be this season's form nadir for him.
He's played three seasons under a manager who was in a phenomenally (and permanently), atrocious moment of his football management.

You used 'passes back constantly' (whatever you thought your argument was) in relation to him, it doesn't match, neither does any of the 'plop' (as you called it) that constantly berates him. 4 games into the season, imo he's had 3 good games and 1 poor game. If Rom does that all season we'll win the league.

No, he absolutely didn't. He was drawing upon an example of how stats can be manipulated and give false impressions. It is very clear it was not about Barkley.
