I have to say, I think it's a bit of a myth that he gives the ball away very easily. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he's one of the best in the squad at ball retention in tight areas. It seems to be to be an accusation that people lazily throw at him anytime he gives a performance below 8/10. Same goes for his passing, it hasn't been particularly incisive this season, but some people make out as though every second pass he makes goes straight to an opposition player, which is far from the truth.

I still think Barkley will come good mate, the problem is though he hasn't been anywhere near an 8/10 performance for a long time.
 
The only person who can make sure he fulfils his potential is himself. At the moment he isn't going to do it unless he takes a look at himself and tries to improve on the areas that he has weaknesses, of which there are a few glaring ones.

When things aren't going right for him he doesn't put in the hard work to get people off his back. He ambles round looking lost and it understandably annoys the fans, and no doubt the manager too. He gives the ball away in stupid situations when there is no need, and he doesn't show the aggression that someone with his physique should. For me if he doesn't work on those parts of his game then he won't ever be the player he could be.

Having said that, despite a poor first half, I thought for most of the second half he had a good game and retained possession well. He stuck to the basics when needed and popped up with an important goal so fair play to him. I'd love to see him succeed but i'm losing patience with him now and I feel time is running out. At the moment, as a club we can't afford to lose talented players like him as the alternatives are players like Cleverley but by the end of next season, if we have started to make the progress we expect with transfers I think Barkley could be on the way out.

For me, he's just a player that responds to movement around him. When we had Valencia and Barry on, we were incredibly static, he had no one to pass quickly to. No one runs into space, it's a ball into the feet of a player stood still.

Davies and Calvert-Lewin come on and it changes, he has movement in front of him and he improves. As tosh as Naismith was he moved about between the lines and was prepared to take the ball (albeit it would come off his shins for 20 yards) and this helped Barkley.

True this Barkley is a middle table team player, which is where we are right now, if we want to compete with those above us we need better players then Barkley, problem we have is same applies for most of the squad

Agree mate, the movement in the side is non - existent most of the time. Hopefully though, better players around Ross, means a better Ross, and by the end of the transfer window he'll have those better players.

It amazes me how people think he keeps possession well... I don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion after watching him
