Ross Barkley

Thought Ross did alright today. Used the ball well, worked hard. Just didn't click with the other attackers. Would like to see him drop back a bit meself – he's not smart enough to play behind the striker, but can do almost anything with a football when he concentrates.

He needs to play deeper as part of a midfield 3 I reckon, or start learning the Barry role sharpish.

Seems that Ross has hit a brick wall regarding his development, thought that the game passed him by for the most part tonight.

This is where he needs to go to the next level now but I'm not seeing that at the minute, he was sloppy in possession and was well looked after by the behemoth James McCarther ( tongue in cheek there) but he seems to be regressing rather than improving.

The way he is playing he needs to be dropped but at the minute who comes in for him ? but the boy needs to be dropped

I've been more critical of Ross than most, but I actually thought that in patches tonight Koemans message seemed to have got through to him. He was at least attempting tackles, and in fact won a couple, and also in patches he seemed to be more aware...one slipped pass to almost put Coleman in was excellent. He still has a massive hill to climb, and the jury is still out on him, but there is a little glimmer of hope. Thought we were worth at least the draw, Palace are strong physically and Mr Mars Bar has them very well organised and playing well. Don't forget they have won their previous three away games. They will give the big four or whatever it is, a good game, and so will we.

Well done mate thought you were one of the agenda driven ones he's wasn't brilliant but he put a shift in & had a go it will come

Certain posters will have you believe that, but it's actually nonsense mate.

On Barkley, first half I thought he looked decent, had that moment where he beat the full back in the second half as well and won a corner. But losing the ball in costly areas is still a really big problem, which is why I think he was hooked when we were under the cosh.

Worst player on the pitch considering what he is supposed to bring to the team. In his position he should be our creative outlet but instead we move it out to the wings. Simply not good enough, more of a hindrance.

@Squawka: Ross Barkley’s first half by numbers:

100% aerial duels won
96% pass accuracy
8 crosses
4 chances created
1 shot… https://t.co/4BIyvHraeD

So...when the ball is in the air more than on the floor and we're bypassing the midfield hoping for drop downs from the front two...how's he getting the ball?

The game was a scrap and not a football match, and he did his part.

I'll also point out he's created more chances for the team than any other player too.

But hes out Joe Allen apparently.
