Ross Barkley

I can forgive him all day if it's a killer pass that doesn't quite come off or a shot that gets saved or hits the woodwork. It's the misplaced 5 yard passes and dithering on the ball choosing whether to shoot or pass and then picking the wrong option that infuriates me.

There's probably more scrutiny on him because of his position and the fact he's a local lad. It's up to him to deal with that extra pressure and be the player we all hope he can be.

what confused me is he did this fine against sland, played things simple and then went backwards again in the next 2 games

From an armchair coaches pov it seems that he could do a few simple things to make himself more effective. He's built like a centre half, when we get the ball wide he needs to get himself on the back post he'll get 5-10 goals a season just doing that. I'd stop him coming deep to get the ball too and tell him to play off Rom, almost a 442, and if he gets a yard 20-25 yards out get the ball out his feet and have a crack. I think that's his best position, he's not a no.10 imo but then I'm not paid 7mill a year RoKo is so I'm hoping he knows what to do with him.

Sterling team mate value - £895 million
Barkley team mate value - £3.99 + a fake ground move.

I've got a bit of a theory about you. You're actually a kopite who came here initially on a wind-up during the transfer window because you weren't getting the attention you so crave on RAWK, but for some reason you feel at home here and have stuck around.

You're not too dissimilar to Shankley in his later years. You feel more accepted by Evertonians.

Am I warm?

Ross Barkley should do nothing more than attack a defence with the ball at his feet or link with a striker.

If he did just that and nothing more he would be the best player we have ever had by a country mile.

Even Phil Neville, the most boring man since Arthur C Clarke said the Spanish players in LA Liga cannot believe how skillful OUR Ross is.

I think it's just the world we live in nowadays. Everybody wants everything now. People would genuinely rather have a very good player like Sigurdson for example rather than a potential world beater like Ross who is just having some bad form after being managed by clowns for the last three years. He will come good.

There isn't a player of Ross' age who is so vital to the performance of his team.

When Ross plays well our attack functions, when he doesn't it doesn't.

Deli Ali got a lot of praise last season but had Dembele and Eriksen alongside him. Other than that you look around and it is 25-30 year olds in the key creative positions for their teams.

I was reading about Rueben Loftus-Cheek, the Chelsea prodigy everyone was excited about, he turns 21 this week and he's only played 600 minutes of first team football. 1.5 years than Barkley and he's basically never played.

He's clearly a talented player with a fantastic shot and a lot of skill. Now someone explain to me why he never even attempts to make a tackle and never sprints anywhere unless he's making a run with the ball. He just looks lazy and never gets stuck in when he plays. Why?

Maybe.

I'm not agreeing with some posts in another thread saying 'he's another Rodwell' - he's much better than that. Having said that, he does need a bit of sock pulling up and finger pulling out.

He's not the finished article yet, but at what age can he no longer be considered 'potential'?

Is his problem confidence? Or is he simply off form? It happens to all players, maybe he just needs a lucky break or a rest and he'll be firing on all cylinders again.

We want Ross to be ace and rightly so, and he is very good - question is how good? Are we overrating him because he's ours? I don't think we are, I think he's a very good player in general, who may have simply lost his way last season (like a lot of our players did) and has taken a little longer to recover his form, and just needs a nudge in the right direction.
Think when they were both on form Rodwell was loads better. Rodwell never reached the heights because of injuries. Ross is simply not good enough.

I'm not at all. I was covering the game the other day for several huge websites - for the ratings afterwards I gave Ross the prestigious 'flop of the match' award...

I also watched the Stoke game - in full. I actually said after it that I thought he played just fine - always looked to make an impact and never hid away from the ball - things just didn't come off for him (IMO).
So nothing worked but he was fine at the same time?
