He is local, young, and English, and all of this to dome degree contributes to the extra pressure he finds himself under. We always yearn for a local lad to come through, and come through big.
His biggest challenge for me is overcoming his mental fragility and learning to play more on instinct rather than taking that extra second to overthink - but I'm not sure if that can be coached into/out of your game.
Ability wise he is right up there RK must just find a way to let him play with less anxiety - the less overt responsibility he is given (i.e. captaincy) the better for him as I see it, though of course that doesn't give him a free pass to not carry his weight for the team.
I have always been sceptical of sports psychology and practitioners in that field but would be sure they are employed by the club - this is a perfect example where they could earn their money's worth and see if they can help loosen the shackles as it were.
He does get an unfair break from some quarters - he was consistently one of our better performers in an awful season last year and has been a bit in and out so far under Koeman, but has already chipped in with goals, and aside from Lukaku, we don;t have anyone doing that often enough.

You wouldn't mind selling him??? That's outrageous really, the lad was poor first half and Koeman seen it, you don't sell a player who has all the attributes to be a top top player. Mirallas was much worse for me in that first half but Koeman in my opinion was sending a message that nobody is untouchable. Get behind him and the fans would want to stop booing him at home, Phil Neville and Carragher spoke really highly of him, think they know more than us. Neville spoke about how the Valencia players marvelled at his technical ability.
Don't think it's the media as much as it's our own fans this time mate!

I also don't think Ross is anywhere near the finished article and I myself was hugely frustrated with him last night. Heck, I did the player ratings for Goal/FFT etc and I voted him the 'flop' of the match.
But... that doesn't in anyway change my opinion of him.
He gets a lot of undue stick from our support. He had a poor 45 minutes yesterday after what has been a very good start to the season under Koeman.

Barkley wasn't great last night, but he is still a great player, playing in a difficult position and will get better at it as the years go by. He might also need a bit of help to be mentally stronger in the games, not letting the mistakes affect him and being able to refocus, difficult but I'm sure it could be worked on.
It's a lot of pressure being the main supplier to Lukaku. Mirallas was also really poor in the first half, giving the ball away a lot and drifting in too much, if Koeman had a decent enough replacement I think he would have gone off as well.
The second half saw our wingers played much wider which created space in the middle and the crosses hit their targets. I think Barkley would have benefitted with having Bolasie and Deulofeu either side of him.
I don't know why people are so keen to put him down, he seems a great lad, works hard and is a blue, personally I love watching him play.

But in all seriousness mate, totally 100% agree. The Barkley haters will love this and jump on him. I know we all want him to be his best, but the fact of the matter is he's been very good this season. Last night was a poor display and the correct decision was made. But he'll come back just fine.
I don't think he has been good this season... And even last year ... I know his goals and assists has improved ... But overall I don't think he played well. I miss his dribbling runs and leaving players for dead.... I miss his thunderbolts and when he first broke through.. He would tackle everything and looked like he was going to be an all action box to box player... Just with amazing technique and dynamite in both boots...now he barley shoots, doesn't dribble, has a poor touch more often than not and never tackles ( he just closes a player and pretends he's trying to win the ball)

Just watching the match again. For my money Ross was just jogging around and being shown up by Gana. I know they are totally different players but Gana showed Ross up. Everything Gana did, first touch, change of direction, quick accurate pass, Ross seemed unable to do last night. We saw this with Rodwell, all the skill in the world but couldn't break out of a stroll. I'm sure Ron will put him right though.........
