Ross Barkley

That's my sense also. This is posturing to secure himself a huge deal, which to be fair, I don't blame him for.

If he's gonna commit himself to us for potentially the prime of his career he should get a deal that reflects that.

I suspect we would have done a deal last year, but Barkley's form and stock was so low, it wouldn't have been a great one. Fact that he's now in a 4 month period of great form helps him a lot.
His contribution to the team last season was greater than this season. Dont let the last two months of last season when no one else turned up either cloud that fact. 8 goals and 8 assists. His best season so far.

I dont think Koeman wants Ross, and Ross doesn't like Koeman. But both of them are stuck with each other...for now.

McManaman that must be almost 20 years ago. I can't recall high profile players, in PL anyway who had chosen to run down the contract and the club let him to do so. I don't include old players like Lampard.

from abroad coming into the league on a free theirs been quite a few.

Talking domestic clubs losing players on frees (i mean top quality ones), biggest recent one being Lewandowski running his Dortmund contract down and leaving on a free to Bayern

Barry (although old at the time), Milner (if you actually rate him), although a whilst ago Sol Campbell did it with Spurs as well,

So that's not many as dave suggested.

Disagree on the first point re his contribution, but that's a long conversation.

Dobut the second bit is true, suspect Koeman wants more out of Ross, but then don't we all.

We've all been waiting for his decision making to become more clinical for a couple of years, as sometimes still makes really basic errors, which would drive managers mad, but for me his game in the last few months has been excellent, and his stock is now very high.

I think he looks neutered. Some will be happy listening to the pundits' comforting words about RB now getting his head down and working. But it's at the expense of his natural game.

No way will Barkley play like this if he went to Spurs, for example.

No your right he would be on the bench.

yeh he'd barely play at all

Barkley to Spurs is Rubbish. He's not taking Alli's place ffs. If he's happy sitting on the bench there then maybe he'll go otherwise he'll be playing out wide which doesn't really suit him

Barry was surplus to requirements at City as was Cleverley at United. They were never going to be offered new contracts by their clubs. I believe Milner was offered a new contract but decided to run it down as he wasn't happy with the game time he was getting.

I'm sure there have been some domestic ones over the years but I can't think of any off the top of my head. There was the Carlos Tevez affair but this was a weird one with him only being in a 2 year loan at United and being owned by a third party.

How about Dan Gosling? He's top quality:p

Just don't see this at all. Last few months (since Davies and then Schneiderlin have come in) he's looked at his best for me.

Don't give a flying one what the pundits say one way or the other, in terms of affecting my opinion.
