Ross Barkley

Ross just needs to believe in himself and do the simple things. He keeps trying to over elaborate and that's when he makes mistakes.......do the simple things well Ross and you will become a great.....

Thats what he was doing before the England fiasco and the derby. He will probably go back to doing that tomorrow and all the critics (especially from our own fans) will be silenced again.

I hope you're right. It rarely seems to be just one game with him though, when he loses his head it lasts a few weeks. I knew as soon as I read about him deleting posts etc after the England situation that he'd perform like that Saturday. It's like playing with 9 men as it isolates lukaku so badly. We really need an alternative to play instead of him when this happens

Spot on. That's precisely what!s great about Davies.

Martinez free role for Barkley set him back, but under Koernan and with guys like Schneiderlin along side he's learning where and when to play the right type of football.

Has been on a solid upward curve most this season... fingers crossed he's back to that pronto after Saturday's blip.

Hats off to Phil. Hope Ross sees that.

Coutinho? The lad who turns up every third game and posts inferior stats to Ross each year? Coutinho has one trick in his book, sadly we were too stupid to stop it on Saturday. He played well Saturday but a world class player he is not and certainly is not good enough to be some sort of role model for Ross.

But on Saturday he HAD to try something different. If he'd simply got the ball and dropped it off then it wouldn't have made a difference.

The way the team was set up, he had to beat a couple of men and create a chance. What was popping out wide to Holgate/Lewin going to achieve?

That's what has wound me up about the media, pundits etc slagging him off, Barkley has been brilliant the last few months but those bellends only pick up on his one bad game for yonks, but then they cream their kecks over the one good game Coutinho has had for months.

I'm not one of these conspiracy theorists who believes the media all hate Everton, but it's a fact that some of the 'new' breed of journalists (especially the Oxbridge toffs that currently dominate the London-based print media) genuinely live in a bubble of 'top six and plucky old Everton'.

Any excuse they get to knock Barkley down they have taken over the last few years.

You can guarantee it wouldn't happen if he played for Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal (look at Wilshere for example), Liverpool etc.

He was finally starting to turn it on early in the second half and, just as we were building some momentum, we went and conceded that third goal (from literally nothing).

It was just classic Everton wasn't it? Mane off through injury, only one goal in it so they'd start getting nervy and our defence decides to reenact the parting of the waves.

Glad you spotted that

We made a subtle change at half time, which really worked (well, at least in terms of making us more threatening). Barkley went to almost a false 9 position, with Lukaku and DCL slightly wider than central. Allowed us to find those two in channels more easily and Barkley got more space and became more influential.

Sadly we conceded a little bit too early for us to really build on it

Yep. We were playing well at that point (and this is what Koeman has said as well). We were on top and then suddenly we go and mess up and the game is all-but over. We never recovered and had to go all-out and that gave them even more space on the counter.

The one thing I would've liked to have seen @dannyboy is that when Mane got injured, I was convinced that was the time to make a sub.

Not that my opinion counts haha, but at that time the RS were definitely a little concerned that we were finding space, and it seemed the ideal scenario to inject something into the side. That's my only real criticism of Ronald for the other day. He wasn't decisive enough in that moment.
