Hang on. Your surely going too far the other way in your defence. This season Barkley has grown to be our most influential and creative player, the fact he performed poorly yesterday contributed to our dispiriting defeat. We needed him to be able step up yesterday and be a catalyst for a decent showing at least. Defend him against over the top criticism by all means but you cannot totally exonerate him from any culpability in our defeat.Ross Barkley isn't Everton's problem Everton are Ross's problem seriously when is the last time we won a big game.
Fair point I was talking across the last 2 seasons rather than the game in isolationH

Don't know if it's already been posted (can't be arsed looking like) but Harry know his footy.
You could see him inching to manage him lol
Could not of worded that better myself! That is exactly how I see Barkley and Tbf I have actually said similar things on toffeeweb myself. To me, that is how he plays and vs the "lesser" teams he more often than not gets away with it and does look to play well but against better teams/players they don't give you that time and hound you and usually force Barkley into mistakes.
Thing is aswell, he's been playing in that similar manner ever since breaking into the first team and doesn't seem to be refining his game. Now if he worked on doing the simple things more often in certain areas of the pitch, and now and again trying the spectacular and incisive stuff in the right areas of the pitch then he could potentially progress into a very good player!
Like Koeman says, he doesn't want Barkley coming deep and taking half a dozen touches in his own half, cos deep down he knows he can be a bit of a liability and make mistakes and lose the ball in dangerous areas. He wants Barkley further forward, getting on the ball in the hole behind Rom and making things happen there and trying tricks, through balls and shots in and around the oppositions penalty area where if it doesn't come off, were still in good positions to recover from that and go again as apposed to him trying stuff in our own half or on the edge of our area where if he loses it we might get punished!
Then you have that crock Hargreaves (he always reminds me of one of those bands who for some reason are raved about but haven't actually done anything) putting his view across.
We still talking Barkley?!
I think he tanked under Martinez and still has to work out what his game is. Does he beat people a la gazza? No. Free kicks? Not really. Tracking back/ Tackling? Poor.
At his best around the box, give n go, shots, setting players up but his stats there aren't compelling.
He's a young lad still though, needs fitness to be at his best and with the exception of defensive work has proven in flashes he's got the potential in the other areas above.
Go on lad, keep improving.
