Fair enough. I think he wants to come to City otherwise this dance wouldn't be going on.
As for the Ronaldo analogy, maybe doing that with a nearing thirty left back is fair enough, but if I was an Everton supporter I wouldn't want to hear that in relation to Ross. Nobody was ever going to pay silly money for Baines, but someone will for Barkley. Makes the situation very very different IMO.
He is saying that because its true. Only Real, Barca and Bayern in world football can prevent players from leaving, Man U had just won the league and played in a CL final yet Ronaldo wanted off. It happens at nearly all clubs, yours included because if Real madrid were being linked with Aguero you would say he's not for sale and your financial situation means you dont have to sell. However if Real come in with £100 million and Aguero was stamping his feet, a la Suarez and Tevez he would end up being sold. If someone comes in with a offer of £60mill + then of course the board would have to consider it as any football club would consider a huge bid, however if Barkley is happy to stay (which by all accounts he is) then we are in a position to reject it.
People point to Rooney but that was a whole different situation. Rooney never stood a chance of winning or even competing with the players we had then and we were in a terrible financial situation. Barkley has the makings of a very good young team around him, who if they click and with one or two additions could be challenging for trophies and playing in the CL, so why would he be desperate to leave? If in 4-5 years he hasnt seen signs of progression he may want to leave, however if he's at the level we all think he will be, he will end up at Real etc.
