I'm not disappointed he's gone, I am disappointed in the manner of his going. He (or his agent) appear to have screwed us out of quite a fair bit of cash. I didn't think he was that good - he may have been streets ahead of his peers when he was younger but as he got older he didn't seem to kick on and they caught him up. He didn't have footballing brain, always looked to me as if he had to stop and think what he was going to do next. I'm unsure why he is going to Chelsea- unless it is for a fat paycheck because if Willian can't get in that team on a regular basis I don't think Barkley will.
Agree with this, nothing stopping the lad from signing a 12 month extension with an agreed fee to leave. The way he’s gone about it leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

You alright Bryan?

Ross leaves to try and improve, like anyone in a level of comfort you can either sit around and take a way and never really challenge yourself, being content in the belief you've got an entire fan base behind you, or you can choose to try and reach the pinnacle of your capabilities

i agree with that, and don't blame him for moving on to what is undoubtedly a club which is more likely to see him winning honours in the short career that Ross, and all footballers have.

But
, he, or probably more accurately, his agent, appears to have turned down the move in the Summer to get himself a better deal financially now. Chelsea have saved in the order of 20 million pounds by his decision, so he's effectively cost us that.

If he ever wants to do a Rooney and come back, then I think he'll owe us 20 million, plus interest. I certainly won't be welcoming him back to Goodison when he's with the Chelsea squad, and he'll, quite rightly, likely get dogs abuse from our support, both at Goodison and down at the Bridge

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on, and, with better players around him, he should improve at Chelsea, but it's by no means certain that he will. It's pretty much a no lose situation for Chelsea, unless his injury has a long-term effect, if he doesn't make it as a first team regular, then they'll sell him for a tidy profit.

I always find this reasoning a bit funny because big cliques exist among pros...both employed and retired. You can win all the trophies you want but if you are/were a bit-part player, you won't get real respect from your peers as you didn't contribute. Someone like Messi could give two fecks about Ross Barkley...if you can't do it consistently, you're just a squad player. Trophies don't mean a thing to those eat them for breakfast.

Or something...

Good point that mate, and not something I'd ever really considered before, but, if it was me, and putting aside the Boyhood Blue thing, if I had a chance to get a few medals as a bit part player, that's likely the route I'd go down, and if Messi wasn't impressed, I'd just do my best to kick him in a dead rubber Champions League match !

Worse than Barmby , at least he never pretended to be a blue. Not many have left us to go on to better things, he may get more money, may even get a medal as a bit part player but he will never be idolised in the Chelsea blue like he could have been wearing the Royal Blue Jersey. Sums up the modern footballer really, cash in pocket is worth more than adulation and playing. Believe me, he will regret this move for a long, long time.

I just find it funny, from a player prospective...they all crave what they typically don't earn. And I mean that from a performance perspective.

Far worse then Barmby, he had no local ties and Everton back then under Smith was no place for anyone decent to be, Chelsea have only bought Ross because he was cheap so worth a punt, unlike Barmby this clown can't even get a proper place in a poor England team

The sad thing is I doubt he will. He will pick up vast wads of dosh and never be out under any kind of pressure. There is a long list of English players who moved to Chelsea and spent their entire career never being seen again. I don’t wish the lad harm, I am just bored with him being a topic of conversation, and it is now for Chelsea to argue about whether or not he will ever fulfill his ‘potential’. He has chosen his path, if he is a success, I will take no pleasure from it (the way I did seeing Rooney take the Manc and England scoring records), nor will I take any pleasure in seeing the lad crash and burn. He has just never been that good a player because his main flaw cannot be coached out of him, that is his lack of mental stamina and speed of thought.

I did my grieving for Barkley quite some time ago and his transfer comes as a relief. My passion for this club can't be dulled by the decisions of this soft lad, I feel sorry for him more than anything, he never gets to be a Blue again.
