Two reasons, really;

1. His mentality.
2. Chelsea will start with better players.

I think point 1 is an excellent one. I don't think he has it in him like Rooney does/did. You could tell that his head went yesterday.

Barkley is a strange one he was great in the 2013/2014 season scored some decent goals against Norwich, Man City, and Newcastle. Some games he controlled the midfield against Chelsea at home that season he was great. However after he came back from his injury in the 2104/2015 season he was useless. Took about 10 seconds to decide what he was gonna do. I think it's always gonna be a problem when a thick player tries to be clever. He's a bit like Deulofeu, shows some great promise, but rarely has the end product. The thing is people didn't mind as much with Rom because he actually did have an end product, Ross didn't. He is probably the most bizarre and frustrating player I've ever seen. Has all the ability all in the world, but just doesn't have the brain. Just look at Rooneys, pass for his goal from DC United, Barkley just seems to a weak minded individual.

When was his injury again? Remember him being mince back half of the final Martinez season, a determined effort to play himself out of the England side for Euro 2016. He wasn't alone there like, but I remember going to Watford away and thinking there was something wrong with him physically - looked slow and overweight, wasn't moving right.
