Yer i agree but only a fool would pay 200m for messi at this stage of his career imo

wouldnt touch him with a barge pole at that Price

I can't disagree on the price for a 33yo regardless of who he is for footballing reasons. However, it would raise the
profile of City into the stratosphere. It's a one off chance to do it and the owners can afford it.
Chelsea have already spent £134m with another £90m for Havertz more than possible and they
are still in the hunt for a new central defender and goalkeeper. Liverpool spent the neck end of that
a couple of seasons ago also. From a footballing point of view I wouldn't do it but as we know
there is a lot more to it than that these days. It would also boil the urine of the two American owned clubs
who play in red, so another good reason to do it. I don't think it will happen but I hope it does.

I think he'll be at Barcelona next season - I am 90+% sure of that. This'll blow over.

Have City or PSG actually said they're looking at him?

Pep was In Barcelona last week and City's Director of Football is over there now if reports are to be believed.
Maybe Pep was there to see his family etc but that would be highly coincidental?

Let`s face it, if he does go to City, everyone of their home games will be sold out and every away game will be sold out too.

TV stations from all over the world will be there.

Whichever way you look at it, Messi in the Premier League would be huge.

Agreed - the fee mentioned is ridiculous but small change for oil well FC, newly empowered by the uefa FFP ban failure.

Im not even sure he helps city out on the pitch massively (better keeper and defenders needed there, not another forward), but I don't think they are bothered about that - the financials, and what Messi does for city off the pitch are massive.

It is, unfortunately, the football equivalent of willy waving. And its the currency modern footie runs on. Biggest wang = more attention, sales and cash.

He isn’t going for £200 million, especially when he is likely to be a free transfer when he wins any legal action.
Very likely, but I don't think city are arsed if it didn't play out like you say - I'm sure they want to wind uefa and FFP up even more, they started already with Ake!

He`ll be worth more than 200mil in shirt sales etc to whoever buys him.

Plus if City where to buy him, it would finally put them on the map as a footballing super power.
Plus the circa £100 million in wages per annum?

I think that it might be an acceptable price to pay for City's owners if it makes them join the super elite. That's the big 2 Spanish clubs, United, Bayern and Juventus for me. I don't even think that the rs are there really (1 CL and title doesn't make up for the decades of not being champions, but I concede that it would only take a couple of seasons like the last one to get them back into contention) or the other Italian giants are in that category; certainly none of the London clubs are yet, and PSG are like City banging on the door.

How ballsy a move would it be to go get him? If we were in City's position, I'd be willing the owners to go all in on this.

I agree. It’d be great for the league too.
