So if we were bottom of the league for arguments sake and the club was still clinging into the manager turning it around still because he is a half decent manager then you would still want the win even though the manager is the reason for being bottom in the first place? Knowing a win would keep him in his job and a defeat would see him sacked.
This is a general question, not koeman. related. But It's black and white still knowing the man taking the ckub down could buy another month of poor results before the risk appears again? You would still want that win completely and there isn't a chance not wanting that win in a extreme scenario like that would be acceptable for the fans?
Plus you have to take into account, the people running the club find getting beat by some teams as acceptable losses so as a fan of that club, is it not ok to buy into that club philosophy, not caring about losing to teams because they are better than us basically? That is the mind set currently, yet that attitude is devoid of any passion or caring by itself
The issue here is no decision (you would hope) to replace a manager is ever taken on the basis of one result. The result against Brighton should not be the only deciding factor in whether Koeman stays or not. In recent years van Gaal got sacked after winning the FA Cup, and Rodgers lost his job after a 1-1 derby draw at Goodison. Neither of these things are bad results, but clearly overall the owners and board members of these clubs had not been happy for a prolonged period of time and had been waiting to pull the trigger. Most probably after finally securing a better replacement- perhaps that option isn't open to us right now?
It's unlikely a win would see Koeman lose his job, but for arguments sake let's say we win 1-0 with a deflected OG in the 90th minute following another dire performance- he should still be under a serious amount of pressure and if he's in line for the chop it shouldn't save him. If we were bottom of the league as you depict in your scenario then we as fans should be desperate for any and all wins, and simultaneously it's the board who should be being questioned, not the manager, as to why they think this is acceptable.
What is worrying on that front is what you refer to yourself and that is our owner and board's apparent mindset that some losses are "expected" and that's just how it is for "little old Everton". That mentality is a cancerous tumour that needs to be cut out from the club at all levels.
