Overall im very happy with the job Koeman is doing but today was a disaster.He failed the Anfield challenge.A lot of our players just can't deliver on occasions like merseyside derbys.
I thought they were in top gear and we never got out of 1st gear. Goals were the difference in that game. I thought all the goals were sloppy due to inexperience of Pennington and Holgate and a badly positioned goalie. Wouldn't say we were snotted but would say we didn't perform well due to Coleman and Schnides being unavailable.

I was listening to a podcast recently where Dave Prentice was talking about Joe Royle going to watch the mini Derby prior to his first game in charge. They battered Liverpool and Ebrell, Parkinson and Hinchcliffe ran the show. Royle instantly got them back to the first team squad and he never lost a Derby, by having that kind of player.
We need some characters with some bollocks. Is it Koemans fault that our best players went missing today or were injured?
He has to take his share of the blame, but it's nights like this where those with knives out for the guy enjoy themselves. So I'm going to defend him and the club, because he, like Moshiri have given me hope this season.
And say it quietly, if Arsenal don't win tomorrow and we beat UTD we go fifth with back to back home games to follow.

We have the pattern in place: by and large, poor and mediocre teams will be dispatched with efficiency; better teams we'll fear and struggle with. I can see us easily holding 7th on 65 points or so with the odd draw or two thrown in against a decent outfit.

Today it was the players. We had an injury crisis and we needed the established players to step up, or at least match their recent form and it was they who let the club down, but they have a great opportunity to bounce back on tuesday now.

Liverpool are going to be a threat when Firminho, Mane and Coutihno play, you fancy one of them to get good chances in the game. And our center halves have a thing for parting like the red Sea when they're run at.
You can tell what Koeman was thinking in his approach to the game. I think he's still assessing the squad ahead of a big Summer. Today was an experiment. He gave the youngsters a go to either sink or swim. From it he would have gathered that Pennington doesn't look up to the job, Holgate is a good option but needs time to improve, and questions remain over DCL.
Should he still be experimenting this late on in the season? Probably not but I think 7th was his aim and so once a bit of distance was gained in that position that was that. Maybe we'll be better off from the learning curve in the long run.
But, I think he's nearing the end of his squad assessment for the next campaign. There's a solid 4-5 starters and the rest have been rotated. From looking at who he's been playing and other factors, I'd say anyone other than these are not safe in Koeman's plans - Lukaku, Barkley, Davies, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Coleman, Baines, Holgate, Williams, Lookman (Bolasie, Deulofeu?).
Those in bold will be starting in Koeman's first game of 2017/18. As for the rest, that remains to be seen. Both exciting and worrying at the same time.
