If we can't match his ambitions through lack of resources or indeed ambition ourselves, he'll clearly go at some point in the future.
My guess is he will go after breaking into the England team, so perhaps in 2 seasons?
However disappointed I would be, I still could not give up Everton though!
Well I would still be a fan, meaning I could never support anyone else, but I would seriously look at other avenues of entertainment in my life. There are quite a few Evertonians who were once fervant but then just decided that it's not the most important thing in life.
Basically I need assurances from the club that they recognise the potential that can be yielded from retaining quality youth.
If you want to and if you look closely enough you can start to see a team blossoming. I'm not talking about Arteta or Yakubu, Yobo either. I'm talking about that talent that is coming through.
The likes of Bidwell, Baxter, Femi Onugeura, Duffy, Coleman, the lad from Leeds.
From what I have been told these lads are also on the same path as Rodwell and Rooney. But by selling them on we are doing the exact opposite to what Man U did at the start of the 90's. And for me, that is what needs to change at Everton.
Ok we retained the likes of Hibbert and Osman, Anichebe and perhaps Vaughan. But none of them were highlighted as future stars, so I would rather see them moved on and the better quality retained, rather than cashing in on their potential value.
Wayne Rooney was sold for almost 30m. Ronaldo has just been sold for 80m and Rooney is now the main man at Man U and could easily fetch that kind of fee.
We need to retain our academy players, as they are the future of Everton. We sell them, then we are selling the club's future.
