Roberto Martinez discussion

It is, at times. My experience is people are willing to accept it when we're winning, but when we're not they start getting worked up about it.

The elephant in the room is that we're massively missing McCarthy and to a slightly less extent Naismith. Once they're back, results will pick up, almost certainly.
Agree. I hope they are back for QPR. I think it important we grab at least a point in that game

First let me say I am a big fan of Martinez and I want him to be the manager here for a long time. However this match showed Martinez at his worst. I see the decision to put Hibbert in and Coleman at the wing. My guess is he wanted to try more of an counter attacking style while keeping the defense strong. However this did not work. Coleman is not a winger and his strength isn't quick passing like Baines or taking someone off the dribble. He is the biggest threat attacking a lazy midfielder or taking advantage in a defender switching off and finding open space behind. This won't happen as a winger. This leads to my biggest gripe with Matinez. His substitutions and his inability to make a change in his style if it is not working.

We are down one nothing and our right side has done nothing, why not bring on an actual winger and move Coleman to his best position? When you need a goal there is no reason to keep hibbert on when you have coleman already on the pitch.

Mirallas has been in great attacking form however I do not think it is a coincidence that Baines' performances have been limited offensively since Mirallas has come back on the left. They don't combine as well. When Mirallas cuts in he is looking to shoot first and that makes all of Baines runs behind worthless.

Finally our toothlessness in attack comes from the same problem as last season. We don't have anyone to provide a good through ball. Defenses pack it in and set the line at the top of the box. We just pass it back and forth and we are left with having all of our threats being 18 yards from the goal.

Very frustrating day. Also Barry sitting the next match may be a blessing. Looking very slow and careless.

Hi mate. The answer is absolutely not. It's not a topic on phone ins, and today the EFC fans at City were loudly singing Roberto's name in praise as usual. A few people whinging on a message board is the sum total of the supposed 'negativity'.

Our form can and will improve, but it wasn't going to today against the champions.

I've heard it on phone ins, tbf.

Martinez is the right man for the job. These kind of patches happen and happen to all teams. Remember it only takes one slice of good fortune or something out of no where to change the mood and confidence.

However, Pienaar, Osman, Hibbert, Gibson and Distin surely have to be moved on after this season is over. It should of happened last summer. No top club keeps their players when their performances consistently start to decline. They're punted on and replaced, thanks for the memories.

Martinez is the right man but some of his players have been stinking for a while and need to move on. He needs to grow a nutsack and he needs to stop trying to please these overpaid average players who have been dragging their feet for long enough.

Gibson: what a waste of wages, time and effort spent on him. Is there a more pointless player at the club?

Osman: Too slow, weak and cant cut it week in week out. He's not even consistent enough to be a squad player. Get rid.

Hibbert: jesus h

Distin: Superb in his day, playing at the very top level at his age is a wonderful achievement. Thanks for everything fella but your time has come.

Pienaar: I cant remember the last Everton player that has dropped off the shelf as quickly as Pienaar. He is so bad that he now falls over to cover his shitness.

Phone ins are like an audio version of Kipper and the Match Day Threads to be fair though lol

True.

I've been back to liverpool twice this year, and both games we played pretty well so I don't know how frustrated the crowds actually are but I did listen to the radio after the hull game and there was a few angry voices on there.

Vault me from the summer, I said the same thing.

Moyes finished 17th in his second season. It was always going to be harder to keep the spark going and surprise teams with our new style of football.

We gave Moyes 10 years of winning F all, why does everyone want Martinez out after 18 months? Just smacks of Generation Me, I want it and want it now. We're Everton, we're a great club and we should aspire to win everything, but it's not going to be this season.
And in 2011/12 at this point we were on 17pts with a record of w5 d2 l8, were out the league cup in October and we had no europa either so having a poor early season is hardly unique to Martinez.

Spurs have always swapped their manager after a poor run of form and it hasn't done them much good, it would have to get a whole lot worse for me to want to make a change. We have only been on a winless run for 3 games after all.

It was around that time I really wanted Moyes out too. Difference was he had a good 8 years before that season, you could see we'd hit the glass ceiling under him.

How can anyone seriously tell if the same has happened with Martinez after 18 months? It's baffling.

Today marked our win ratio under Martinez slipping under 50%, we now have won slightly less than half of the games we've played under Bobby.

Terrible, that. Get him sacked.

Am I right in saying that you didn't want him in the first place and thought he was awful at Wigan? Be arsed doing the vaulting, but you did a whole thread on how gash Bobby was compared to Paul Jewell I think. Knew you've always had an agenda lol

Prior to that fa cup win, I hated him.

I'll give you some good vaults on it.

Well Steve Bruce had them finishing comfortably midtable so the question you're asking is is Moyes a better manager than Bruce? Martinez certainly isn't.

Martinez is a terrible manager whos teams play terrible football.
