Roberto Martinez discussion

It's interesting that some fans are now complaining that Everton can't keep a two goal lead.

Last season, I remember, when we were 3-1 up against QPR, there were boos when Jagielka passed the ball back to Howard.

I remember that game well and the booing was entirely justified. You can't just take the game in isolation, you had to appreciate it in the context of the whole season. We'd seen some absolutely awful displays devoid of any tempo or attacking prowess. We were spluttering into life a little in this game as Barkley and Besic injected some verve into midfield (both subsequently moved out of those positions in another master stroke). The crowd was urging the team on and in that one moment Jagielka had a wealth of passing options, he dithered so criminally though and eventually went back to the keeper that it just broke a lot of Evertonians there and then. The score was irrelevant, it was a clear symbol that the philosophy was not about good football but negative conservative passing for passing's sake, the sort of football that delivered a relegation scrape and a bottom half finish.

Since you remember the game so clearly you will remember the reason they booed. We had a direct free kick and instead of doing the obvious thing and having a shot on goal we passed the ball all the way back to Howard. It was as negative a piece of play as you will ever see. The home support has indeed been very quiet for a while now. Funny enough it's decline coincides with the arrival of Martinez.
The home support was quiet for years under Moyes. Funny how we actually won at Goodison with Moyes in charge.

I don't think the atmosphere was that bad under Moyes. Maybe in his last year it wasn't the greatest but not like this. What's changed now is that the fan's have absolutely no belief under Martinez. The players show very little fight on the pitch and it rubs off on our long suffering fans.

I really think Martinez can no longer do enough to save his job. Even if we win the cup I think the league form over the last 2 seasons will be his undoing. I would love to see him leading Everton out in the Cup Final and celebrating a win. I hope he gets another job when he gets the sack. But I hope he is no longer Everton manager come the end of the season, I don't believe he is good enough to lead a side capable of challenging at the top end of the Premiership.

The Echo turning on Martinez is very interesting.

You wonder if they've seen/heard what way the wind is blowing, so to speak.
About time the echo are blind to anything everton.
The vast majority of fans have had enough of him so they feel brave to have their say now

Your missing the point - if we go a goal down are you then demanding the managers head or supporting our team to try and win the game? There is a minority on here who perhaps want to see a defeat in order to spend their Sat night typing furiously on here. This game is bigger than the manager - it's our football club 1 game from Wembley.

Not me, I'm usually banned by about 630pm

I want us to win the cup and I want Bobby sacked. The 2 are separate entities.
If we win the cup then records will say Everton won it, not Bobby.
League form has to be taken into account when determining his future. This has been terrible for a while now.

No. Records will say that Everton won it, with Roberto Martinez as our manager.

If he wins the FA Cup - our first trophy in 21 years - then he stays.
