Roberto Martinez discussion

Find it hilarious that anyone has the cheek to slate Martinez about "mistakes", when very few people on the internet even have their very first level coaching qualifications.

By all means they have a right to post their opinions, as long as they realise they are not qualified to say anything anyone should take note of.

exactly

We're learning to cope with Europe at the same time as having a rash of injuries after a surprisingly good year.

We have problems with depth in the wide positions, and shockingly, too many players that play centrally in attack that are either on form, or need game time.

It's hard to leave out Naismith and Eto'o when they play well, but we need to get Barkley and Lukaku time so they can develop for the future. So we end up putting square pegs in round holes.

We'll be fine if we stop getting so many damn injuries and can catch a bit of form. But honestly, I'm fine with top 10 this year as I think Martinez has a long term plan here. Last year was surprisingly successful and is creating unfair expectations on a shockingly young team.

He's gotten some thing wrong this season, but it should be apparent where the future is.

Agree with everything except this. I'll be pretty disapointed if we're not in the European places again this year (including 6th, possibly 7th depending on how the cups go). Having said that, top 10 and being in Europe again by winning something this season would suit me.

yep...top 10 and winning the EL would have me cracking open the vintage champagne.

PS : winning the EL this season (with a CL spot up for grabs) is a very difficult proposition

I pretty much agree. Being happy with top 10 would necessitate deep runs in Europe and the FA Cup...we have too much quality to not break top 7 without those added games.

I'm just taking this season as the team hitting a learning curve. Investment and missteps now should prime us to grow in the future.

I think a lack of patience is the biggest problem with clubs like Spurs, City and now United. City and United have enough cash to paper over the cracks for the most part, we do not. We need to mine value in places other clubs fail to and I think one of the prime areas that we do better than anyone (bar Arsenal) is congruity. I think Chelsea figured this out and brought Jose back with it in mind after a decade of firing managers if they didn't win everything immediately and always.

While I don't have any issue with pointing out areas of concern, it's important to give the team time to learn together and the manager time to figure out what works best. It should put us in a stronger position going forward in relation to the clubs with ridiculous turnover.
