Well I certainly wasn't happy with the cowardly United performance. City, think we got beat fair and square, today we we're a bit unlucky. I think we should just be realistic to the squads current standing, bags of potential but miles off top four. What I'm more interested in is if martinez can't solve the glaring problems tactical and selection wise now the injuries are clearing up and fixtures more favourable.

well summed up

Exactly. The only problem is if the potential we have see greener pastures at top 4 clubs and thus we always remain a feeder club...it's a bit of a catch 22

I don't think our team's as good as people make out. Or our manager sometimes. Either the gap's closed between 5th-12th, or we've gotten worse as a club. I think it's the former.

Agreed. I guess the blue tinted spectacles are understandable given this is an Everton forum, but said glasses are (ironically) lending a myopic outlook.

Think this squad is good enough to press top four personally lads. Sorry if that puts pressure on Bob.
on our day we can beat a top 4 side, but i think we lack the consistency and the depth of squad unfortunately for a sustained top 4 push.
Key injuries are always a problem (looks at the season so far) and the consistency should improve as the younger lads grow into the game a bit more, but without serious money we're never going to have the strength in depth.

We just need to get lucky with injuries at the moment over a long period. If I were Bobby I'd be spending a relatively small amount on upgrading the Medical Knowledge at FF, that way we keep players more injury free and get them back quicker.

This might sound harsh, and I am quite the fence sitter on players, but I think :

(obviously) Howard is goneski. Baines and Coleman whilst amazing going forward leave far too much room for wingers when defending and fail to shut down enough crosses. Jags is prone to hoofball. McCarthy needs to add a final third dimension to his game in this side, United or City would suit his style but we need more. Mirallas and Delatefufufufufu are inconsistent and on par with Nani. Barry is the new Phil Neville and our bench is weak as it comes.
