Difference is Moyes 'dithered' over quality. Mirallas Lescott Pienaar - these transfers all took time because they were for quality players at cheap prices. quick transfers usually occur either when you are throwing a load of money at the problem (certainly not us) or you are buying players from rubbish teams who are absolutely desperate to join you. I think the three lads he's signed will turn out alright for us, but I don't see this as an indicator of Martinez somehow beating Moyes. Moyes' transfer record was outstanding here and if his 'dithering' was a part of that then so be it as he bought a quality of player that Martinez would do very well to match. If we bought a player tomorrow who was half as good as Arteta was for double the price he was we'd all be elated with that. We were spoilt in our transfer dealings under Moyes. Let's hope Roberto can maintain that tradition - decent start so far.

Great point

Agree with this apart from having a decent start so far...seems a very poor start to me.

How so?

All you've done so far is moan about the same thing on different threads without giving a cogent argument, hence why you're not being taken seriously.

I think it reflects more on others than myself*to be honest. Accepting and being happy with these signings...there is ZERO benefit to the club other than robles whose just effectively a 3rd wigan player.

Do you not agree that these are hardly top signings and reek of the manager taking the easy route instead of actually finding better players on the global market?

Which wigan player to sign next ?

He found those players on the global market tho for wigan and Kone is better then our strikers and the goalkeeper is best competition Howard had in years. Martinez was impressed with young GK so why not go for him. These signings do not upset me so we could have done worse. Kone is something we don't have in our strikers.

I am so happy! 3 signings in the space of 48 hours. I haven't seen anything like it in my lifetime. I must say very exciting times ahead. If we keep fellaini and bainesy I can only see us push on from last year but I still reckon we will sign 2 more players.

They are not top signings, but to say they have zero benefit is just ludicrous. We have strengthened the squad, and with Kone it could be argued that we have strengthened the first team.
Now that we have sufficient numbers, I think Martinez will now be looking for his Marque signing.
As said before, it is a decent start, now he has to improve on that and get the top player we all crave.

Kone was signed before at 3.5mil and had one season 1/3 strike rate for a team supplying him with all the chances. He's now 29 and weve got him for 5mil and rumoured 50k a week. Oh and hes a dodgy history as well, fell out with coach before publically...flopped and also has had some serious injuries.

Alcaraz has SPAT at people. That to me is totally disgusting and not someone I want to see in an everton shirt. Filthy creature. Footballing wise, he only got in the paraguay squad at 28 and hasnt set the world alight at wigan.

Robles -- 8 games for wigan. Not played by atletico so hardly seems the equal to de gea or even close, they would rather loan couttois for 3 seasons than let him go on loan and them sell him for 1mil.

I don't see too much benefit here...next the spanish kid perhaps and then again alot on here will be happy because its a SIGNING...not because its a positive signing.

Unless martinez makes 2 quality signings now i think he will be a massive failur in the first season....what would Fellaini or Baines think seeing this tosh ?

wouldn't worry about that mate, they have brains and can see the positives in these signings.

Lets not get carried away eh lads, Martinez so far has brought in 3 players who he already had an association with from his relegated Wigan side!

Kone - 29 yr old good striker with a release fee
Alcaraz - 30 yr old, out of contract average defender
Robles - Young promising Spanish keeper, coming in as back up.

These were NOT hard deals to tie up and are certainly nothing to get you jumping off your seat currently.
I don't care if dave "dithered" he brought us in quality players for low fee's.

Over to you Roberto, sensible start with some usefull squad additions. Now go and get us the players who are gonna make a difference and get us excited!

All we need now is a few more players from a team not in the bottom 3 for 80% of the last 3 years. Kind of crazy really trying to get into europe and spending about 10 mill stripping the assets of a relegated side - manager, backroom, players... But on the trying to stay positive side, Kone should have some goals in him and the new players are probably an improvement on the 3 that left.
