I agree but that's not saying this Sunak Government is any better, maybe fractionally. Sunak won't call an election as he hasn't the authority, he's just a puppet, a means to an end to remove the knobheads before him.

I disagree, he represents the majority of the parliamentary party and as such has the authority - who he doesn't represent is the 40-50 fools who've broken that party, and no amount of appeasement of them (which by the way is what has got him in the crap) will ever satisfy them. The only way to deal with them is to call their bluff.

….its like a stalemate.

Braverman/Jenrick have drawn a breakaway for the Radical Right that could defeat his flagship Rwanda Bill In the Commons. Something similar brought May down.

Sky reporting that Jenrick has formally resigned.

It isn't a stalemate. The "radical right" (in reality they aren't radical at all) could defeat the Rwanda Bill, but the only reason he was pushing it was to appease them. If they block it then it gives him all the reason he needs to ditch it.

As for Jenrick, he is the best enemy it would be possible for Sunak to have - the man is, even by the standards of modern Tory MPs, extremely dubious.

Tories are desperate to find something as motivating and unifying as Brexit was - Get Brexit Done.

They’re banking on it being immigration, and the only option is to go further and further right.

That is to make the mistake of thinking they want a settled politics - they (the faction that is causing this) can only have influence if there is chaos, so chaos is what they promote. They did it with Brexit, they did it with Truss, and now they are doing it with this.

This is after all how Netanyahu has enjoyed a political career for decades.

Tories to scrap ECHR in manifesto pledge to "get immigration done". Nailed on.

The Truss and Johnson administrations were worse.

Sunak cannot entertain this "star chamber" crap, as was pointed out in that tweet May resigned because she entertained it - he has to stick with the bill as negotiated and if the cretins of the ERG, "common sense" and the rest block it call for an immediate General Election.
Cameron, May, Boris all managed to keep the party from imploding. Truss wasn't there long enough to do much of anything other than shoot herself in both feet some feat as it happens. Sunak doesn't appear to have the first clue about politics or party management.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they rolled the dice at this point. Polls have them getting trounced, nothing to lose from putting another PM in to see if it bolsters the base. Tories know how to stay in power.

…a one issue election - immigration - with Braverman in charge. Problem with that is ‘legal immigration’ has trebled under her watch. Whilst trying to stop the boats, she’s left the door wide open for far more immigrants to come in legally.

Cameron didn't, and both May and Johnson provided the chaos that they need.

As for "party management", indulging these cretins (as May, Johnson and Truss did) is what causes the problem. Sunak has to stand up to them.
