They sicken me to be honest, it’s deplorable the lengths they are going to, to make immigration and race the big issue, when we’ve got many other massive problems that the Tory party have created that need addressing much more quickly and importantly - the opposition should not even engage them on it.

I’ve never, ever could vote Tory, but I could respect some of the old Tory ministers, like Heseltine and Clark, even major to a degree, and I get how they got votes back in the day.

This lot represent the absolute worst qualities of this once great country - only scum could vote for these people.

It won't be hard for them to grab the low IQ Neanderthals who went down the alt right social media rabbit holes, so many people have gone from being sound to off their tits on misinformation, the boat people paranoia will be easy prey for the Tories to jump on. Expect them to spin any Brexit success in conjunction with this new attack.

We will see further entryism into Tory party on many levels as they attempt to head off the surge from Reform UK (UKIP), where all the nasty little biggots seek refuge. Well, this is it. Like you, I could never vote Tory (I'm not British, but the point stands: anybody who doesn't live in a gated mansion community is cutting their own throats by voting Conservative). But "one-nation" Conservatism was a more benign form that occasionally had some merit. On "big picture" issues, such as Europe, Clarke and Heseltine assumed reasonable and enlightened positions. John Major - for all his faults - was no headbanger. The current generation? Vile, venal, and gleefully racist. To see people of immigrant background fronting this campaign of hate is reprehensible.

The recent rise in culture war issues are not by accident. That’s what makes this pure evil, they aren’t pursuing these options because they are naturally odious (which they are) they have actually discussed and agreed that doing so, is their best electoral hope.

Sunak appointed Lee Anderson to lead the Tories’ attack and next election campaign on these very topics, because they know that on any other subject area they would lose the argument, on the evidence of their own performance.

From experience, there is already a lot of distrust of authorities among trafficked people. The Government coming flat out and putting blame on the trafficked person(s) and stating "you will be punished" will be wonderful news for trafficking gangs.

It does exactly the opposite of what the Modern Slavery Act was intended to do.

Worth remembering the last vote, the % achieved and how the U.K. looks before you start calling the majority of voters scum etc. Perhaps when you put away the anger, stop the vitriolic language and tried to engage people rather than attempting to paint tens of millions of your fellow countrymen and women as racists or idiots just because they vote Tory then maybe a sensible discussion could result. Unfortunately there are too many in here who think it’s clever to just abuse people because they hold a differing view…Look at the blue bits and think about it…..

Sunak's boss at the time was a very good salesman, and there were a lot of gullible folk who swallowed his fantasy/lies? Delete at your own convenience.

It is a mess, and apparently, the single biggest issue, according to many Tory MPs today, for most people, is "Stop the Boats". That plays to a gallery mate. Not a very nice one at that.

I do however totally agree with the blanket "scum, racist" stuff. 99% of voters are not either. But tell folk what they want hear, point the finger at one class of folk as being at fault, and bingo. The vast majority do not even know what is happening to them.

I totally agree. This stop the boats nonsense is being used by both parties to score political points. As I pointed out in another thread the Tories would get more votes stopping Khan and his ever growing ULEZ zones. This issue in question should have been addressed fairly and properly before even Covid came along. It’s a Home Office and Civil Service issue that has never been addressed. Bruce and I argued for a long time over this, he believed in open borders and I believed in legal migration from anywhere. Personally I‘m happy for anyone to come here, either for work or as genuine migrants, and I said so in here years ago, provided it was done in a legal fashion and queue jumping via people trafficking was effectively made redundant. It does no one any good politicising this issue…..
