Rip it up and start again?

The more I look at the squad, the more I'm thinking wholesale changes might be required. As much as we can blame Roberto for the flop this year, the players need to be held to account too. I think virtually every area of the pitch needs looking at:

Goalkeeper - Definitely require a new first choice keeper IMO

Full backs. - Baines and especially Coleman have realistically been poor for a long period of time now. Are they living off their reputations? Wouldn't mind a revamp

Central Defence. - Depends if Stones stays, but even if he does, we don't seem to have a balanced pairing.

Centre mid - I'm not the only one utterly bored of seeing Barry and McCarthy. We need a mobile forward thinking player who can thread a pass. I wouldn't even cry if Barkley left, he's ineffectual in way too many games

Wingers - have all got good reason to be unhappy this season, being left out for months at a time. None are irreplaceable.

Strikers - I really can't see Niasse making it (He must look garbage in training tbh), Rom looks like he wants to go, so we could well need another two top strikers. I'd go for Benteke tbh.

That is an awful big overhaul for the summer. We need the right man in charge of it.

Agreed with most of it and then you got to this part.

I now require the assistance of an optician to remove this bleach from my eyes.

I think baines and coleman performing badly in a bad team is not really a measure of them as players. Perhaps they are declining sure, not going to say otherwise, but at the same time a good defence could bring out their old self again. Central defence i actually like Mori, think he has impressed me this year, more to come i hope from him. Stones needs a good coach behind him, otherwise we may as well sell him now. think the call for a yard dog defender is not completely wrong though, your shawcross/skyrtl type defender.

I think the midfield needs to be re vamped as the current 2 deep midfielder isnt doing anything for us. Despite other people's opinions, i like McCarthy, Besic has been hampered by injury and Barkley is showing how good he can be. A revamp in midfield and an addition or two to add competition could be what we need there.

Wingers, yeah you are spot on, i like them, lennon performing beyond anyones expectations lets be honest and Del was a player we all wanted to sign. Just replace Mirallas for a reliable and great left mid and we will be onto something there.

Striker wise we need 2 to revamp the squad. Lukaku is gone, so we need to show a hell of a lot of ambition to replace him with someone who can at least bring 20 goals a season in. Naisse i still won't hold an opinion until when/if we see him play for more than 5 minutes, he sounded decent when we bought him. Kone obviously the other that needs replacing in the squad.

that's what i think anyway.
I agree. To me, using 2 "DM"s is fundamentally flawed. IMHO, we should be playing 4-3-3 which is a more balanced and flexible formation. We should not be pigeon-holing players as "DM" - all midfielders should be both defensive and attacking (depending on the game situation). Indeed the whole team should be the same. We need to attack as a unit and defend as a unit.

In an Ideal world I would get rid of Gibson, Pienaar, Osman, Mirallas and Kone. I would look at signings with a view of replacing Baines, Coleman and Jagielka sooner rather than later and I think the midfield needs seriously looking at.

Even our "crown jewels" of Barkley, Stones and Lukaku. I wouldnt be overly upset if any went. Lukaku obviously I would love to keep forever but thats not going to happen. The other two have their good points but meh.

Basically the same Leicester that propped up the League this time last season are a couple of games from winning the title.

Other clubs have some bang average players running through brick walls and doing the basics and in-game management correctly.
We have a talented bunch who switch off, very rarely close down space and make the most basic of in-game errors.

Who is to blame for this though.

the funny thing is, the formation works great if you have a good defence behind it. Potentially have 3-4 attacking players to slingshot a counter when we get the ball. Yet we leak goals despite having 6 defensive players on the pitch. It just baffles me how this hasn't changed at all in two years, but hey, different dicussion there.

What interests me is how different our team can potentially be under a new manager. Some players may be given positions that they make their own whereas now they are floundering, McCarthy for example. Plus better coaching could bring the likes of Ross and Del into top class categories rather than simply inconsistent ones.

We need some leadership and street smarts in the team.
Don't have enough of that IMO.

The squad is as good as anything we've had for years. As has been said time and time again on here, get them organised and properly fit, you'd see a different team. With a few additions closed season, retention of key players and with a manager who knows what he's doing, you'll see a team that'd hopefully be up there next season .

Everybody. Some proper slackers with a loser mentality in our squad.

I think the players should shoulder some of the blame, but I think they will perform under a better manager. However you look at it, Martinez gets out thought by opposition managers in almost every game. They know what we are going to do and wait for the right moment to catch us on the break, against the like of Hughes, Pulis and Pardew we have been undone time and again. It now looks as though he has lost the confidence of the players, they don't know where to play or what to do, which is one reason why there are so many individual errors. Sure I would like to see a new keeper and a few new faces, but our major problem is a manager who is completely out of his depth in the Prem.

I think a squad of maybe 18/19 players tops is all you need, then pad the rest out with youngsters if injurys come about or a signing or 2 in january!

Gk. Robles, New signing (depends if the manager wants robles as no.1 on who it would be)
DR. Coleman, Browning (then we have the likes of Kenny & Holgate if we get a mad rush of injurys, plus stones)
DC. Stones, Funes Mori, Jags & New signing a beast who is a good organiser and leader please
DL. Baines & Galloway (id jib Garbutt & Oviedo off)
MC. Barry, Besic, boss ball playing midfielder and maybe a big strong fella like that ituba at stoke (then we are awash with cm's in the u21s and u18s
AM. Barkley, Geri, Lennon, & 2 new signings, one should be Pienaar esq
ST 2 New strikers, jib Rom off

That means players leaving or not needed would be

Kone
Howard
Garbutt
Lukaku
Oviedo
Mirallas
Pienaar
Gibson
Hibbert
Osman

That big enough for a rip it up?

Is it though? A few months ago we were all frustrated because we thought we were so close with this squad.

Some of the points in the OP are valid ( not the FB's )
Your point is also valid.
Just like it was with Moyes, so it was/is with Re Martinez - all it needed was a few tweaks, a change in emphasis...What I've been calling the 'Goldilocks Option'...not to much Moyes, not too much Martinez, but just right.

IMO this still applies...all is not right, but all is not lost - yet.

This next appointment is critical

The heat has gone out of this site Re Martinez now. Those who want him gone can see it's only a matter of time.

The sound of silence from his supporters on the whole admits to this.

GOT might as well let davek and all the others out of what ever Gitmo they're stashed in as it's all over rover now

Fed up hearing TV pundits saying what a great squad we have. I'd say no one is indispensable and we should appoint a manager who wants to build a new team. If that means waving goodbye to the likes of Jagielka, Barkley, Barry, Mccarthy etc so be it.
