Riots in Ukraine

It's about the West using Ukrainians to try and pull their country away from the influence of Russia and toward the EU. Many in the opposition parties opposing the current Yanukovych regime (he's in favour of forging closer links with Russia) are themselves mired in corruption from when they were in power, and they're using protestors (who include a lot of neo-nazis in their ranks) to try and take power by force.

It's basically an attempt at regime change.

It's much more grass roots than that, Dave. You're insulting the bravery of thousands of Ukranians.

It make me sad, all this. I was in Kiev for a week about five years ago, visiting schools (stayed in the big hotel overlooking Independence Square, actually). It was clear that there was a huge dislike for Russia because of its communist past (they considered Stalin to be more of a monster than Hitler) and the general consensus was that looking west to the EU was preferable to strengthening ties with their former oppressor - and why shouldn't they after the hope that the Orange Revolutions had provided? Kiev, though, was full of monied gangsters in smoked glass Hummers and dodgy gangs of guys trying to scam westerners. It felt like a wild west town at times.

The problem is that while the government has done real wrongs, the heart and soul of these protests are neo nazis. In the same way that the syrian government has done real wrongs but a lot of the rebels are jihadists.

Politics is never as black and white as people try and make it.

I don't think you can describe klitchko or his supporters as a neo nazi

Yeah well done to those who have murdered police officers and probably dragged he one shown in this video off to his death. Equally well done to the police who have used brutality to those who would have wanted to protest peacefully.

God knows what's going to happen. Ukraine is a huge country and the people in the west, who speak a pure Ukranian dialect, have no love for Russia. Those in the east have a lot of Russian mixed into their language and feel much less "western."

A split may be on the cards, given how entrenched both sides seem to be.
