Retiring Numbers

Totally against retiring numbers.

I also like traditional numbering. I can remember a game against Bristol City* when, due to injuries, Gordon Lee played Andy King up front. In the absence of Bob Latchford, Andy wore the number 9 shirt that day. That's the way it should be imo.

*My first, and till now only, time in the Park End. We won 4-1 after going a goal down. Our number 9 with a hattrick.

I think we should retire the number 18 until next season, otherwise, I'd rather see a return of the old numbering system, where the team of the day wore 1 to 11.

Schalke have stepped No7 down for Raul. How long was he there?

That's a bit much isn't it! I see no problems with Milan for instance retiring numbers 3 and 6 for Maldini and Baresi or City and Lens for retiring shirts for Foe. Different but worthy reasons.

Retiring shirt numbers, is the kind of 'new age' football knackers that winds me off the clock, just no, crap idea, bury it.

Burn this thread with fire.
