Retiring Numbers

Dixie is a legend and will never be bettered, but what finer way to honour his greatness than by attempting to uphold the traditions he started with making use of the famous #9? You want every striker who plays for Everton to evoke the spirit of Dixie, to understand the history of the club, to know what he means to our history and to play with the spirit he did - keeping a little piece of him going is the best way to do that. We have one the best traditions of talismanic #9s in the entire country. The Cannonball Kid, the Golden Vision, Joe Royle - just some of the legends to have worn the shirt. Retire it? No. Relive it.

Is right.

Bit of a kick in the teeth for the likes of latchford, sharp and royle who did fine work in that shirt number ain't it, mate?

Oh, Absolutely..

I just think we dont play on it enough..
The lads you mention, ' fine work '.. but not greats ?

( thats a question mark - ie: invites discussion )

what number is negredo wearing next season if 9 is retired?

lads, who thinks benteke would make a great evertonian no. 9? he would score proper everton forward goals, bullet headers from bainsey's crosses.

i think they were greats tbh nhd, i was born in 88 but hear all kind of great stories about those players

Im just putting an idea out there lads..
TJ - you talk of great stories about Royle Etc.. thats sound.. But I have listened to my Grandad RIP, genuinely talk to me about how good Dixie was.
To the young-uns, its an image, a statue outside the ground. Well, he was clearly more than that. He was the best. He played for us and he was that good.
The same Grandad I mention, when he watched footy on the telly, he turned the sound off.. " I dont need someone telling me whats going on in a game of footy lad ! "

I just think if the opportunity is there to highlight our history, then we should. My opinion, and I respect Groucho's, and everyone elses, but we need a selling point here..

Could you imagine the furore from Evertonians if the RS ever retired their no. 2s - The Sh1te with no number 2s - it just doesn't make any sense.

Like you, I respect others opinions, but I think we should never do this.

We should buy the best slotter and give him the #9

Thats fine.. Lets make a big deal out of giving Jelavic the number 9 shirt for next season ( new kit as well ) then ?
Big it up a bit ?

Don't think Jelavic should be given the 9 the way he's playing at the moment.

We need an all round good striker. Jelavic isn't that imo.

This guy though....
