Replacements

This thread has reminded me why I don't come to the Everton forum much at this time of year. Thank you.

I dunno, if I'm honest I think part of our problem as a club has been our reluctance to make wholesale changes to our team and in particular to cash in on our best players when they peak. We could have got big money for Saha if we'd sold him after the cup final for instance and that money could have gone towards any of the currently massive european stars Moyes is always scouting at the beginning of their careers.

And, as much as it hurts to say, we probably held on to Mikel for too long as well given his form at the end of his time here. It's risky selling proven stars to buy unproven players but it can also be incredibly effective if you get it right (see Ajax, Arsenal, Man U etc) and we don't have the money for any other strategy.

The last few summers we've largely sold no-one, bought no-one and trusted in the players we have and it's just led to the team declining. You need fresh blood. Now ideally I'd rather raise for the funds that by selling squad players like Anichebe but those kind of players won't earn the big fees.

Of course, as much as you need fresh blood, you also need to not spunk £26 million on James McCarthy, James Morrison and Chris Gunther. Because that's just mental.
I actually agree with this, except the last paragraph. Just because you play for Wigan and WBA, don't mean you're not a good player - remind me where our best player was bought from...

like a ****ing mint!

You want to sell our best players and replace them with utter sh1t.

Chris Gunther for LB - £3-4 m.
James McCarthy for DM - £10-12 m.
James Morrison for RM - £10 m.
Lewis Holtby for AMC/LM - £8-9 m.

Wow, just wow.

They are without question 3 of the worst players my eyes have ever witnessed.

Chris Gunther for LB - £3-4 m.
James McCarthy for DM - £10-12 m.
Steven Pienaar for AMC/LM - £3-4 m.
James Morrison for RM - £10 m.
Lewis Holtby for AMC/LM - £8-9 m.

Gunther as left back we would get destroyed, If we sold Baines I'd rather spend more than 4m getting someone with Baines potential or quality. It's hard to find a quality LB but I think we could go for someone like Aly Cissoko from Lyon, he has had a great season with Lyon and imo he is the ideal replacement for Baines, he makes good overlapping runs and has a good deliveray as well, he is quick and quite strong as well which Baines doesn't really have prime example the 1-0 loss to Man Utd at Old trafford the season before last, Baines was brushed aside by Valencia without much trouble. However it could be a bit unrealistic he is at a top side and one of the best teams in France and feature in the Champions League regularly, so he may not be interested but moving to us could provide him with a benefit of being in a much harder league which could impress the French national team as he doesn't feature often due to Evra.

Pienaar and Holtby I agree with they would be very good signings. Morrison I do like him but I think we could get a better player for £10 million same with McCarthy.

It'd have to be the left back from Lyon, can't remember his name, for say 10 million.
Then Lewis Holtby for 10 million.
Pienaar for 3 million.
Dempsy on a free.
Stephane M'bia or whatever his name was that we tried to sign for so long for say 8 million
Ever Banega for 8 million.

Sorted

Think we should go in for Jordan Rhodes. Scored 40 goals in 45 appearances for Huddersfield last season and only just turned 22. Don't think he will cost much more than 5-7m.
