When we were linked with Koumas, Paul Dickov, Earnshaw...
Remember when Birmingham laughed at our poor offer for Robbie Savage?
Look at us now... we improve every year. From Beattie, to AJ, to only last year signing Yak, other than Henry, no other current striker has scored more goals.
Lets say we do get Moutinho, Love and a few others, that again is improvement on last year.
But the grass is always greener on the other side... isn't it? We need new investment, just like at Man Citys, Man Utd and Liverpool...
Stability is the key.
We have progressed so far over the last 10 years or so, i always try to remember that before i critisize anything to do with the club. While credit is due to the powers at be for bringing the club from relegation battles every season to european battles and signing class players like, yak, arteta, cahill, lescott etc, we have to remember that unless we continue to build on what we have, it will all count for nothing. We are a great club and have a fan base that expects success and over the last 10 or 20 years success has been few and far between. We are moving forward but every evertonian wants our winning ways to return, we all want silverware.
I know i need to be realistic but we need to take a gamble sooner or later and splash a lot of cash if we want to challenge for premiership titles and qualify for the champs league every year, but has there ever been a better time to take that gamble? We have a top class manager, a top class first team squad foundation, and are beginning to be noticed once more throughout Europe. If we can somehow finish 4th this year and get that added CL cash, with the added bonus of extra popularity throughout Europe we could get a serious cash injection from minimal risk.
If we were to sign Moutinho, Wagner love, manny, mbia and a couple of back up squad players, i think that we would definitely be able to get into the top 4 THIS SEASON. And how much would they cost us:
Moutinho= 18mill-ish
manny= 8mill-ish
m'bia=6mill
Love=loan
back up players= say 3mill each so 6mill total.
That would all equal a total of 38million. Then if you minus the 10mill from AJ it is around 30million, considering how much the likes of spurs have spent, it isnt a massive amount in the grand old scheme of things so why dont we take that chance. Sorry for the length of the post but we have a great opportunity as a club to take that next step and 30million quid is not unreasonable, it is about time we put some serious cash at our managers disposal and give him a chance to compete with the big boys. If we dont take that chance soon and show some ambition, a club that is willing to back moyes will come in and then we will be well and truelly skrewed up the out pipe.
