Do you think all our players have relegation clauses reducing their salary or do you think we have been that arrogant not to include them?
If the worst happens there is the nucleus of a championship squad there. The below would be pretty solid in the championship
Coleman
Keane
Branthwaite
Godfrey
Mykolenko
Paterson
Douc
Davies
Gray
Townsend
Gordon
DCL
Rondon
Dobbin
Yeah I think that would likely be the nucleus of things, although DCL would also leave and I suspect we'd retain Holgate. I think the players we'd definitely sell would be Pickford, Mina, Allan, Richy and DCL. Even with a slight relegation discount there's probably close to £150 million being brought in, not to mention between them and the other contracts expiring an enormous saving on wages.
So there hopefully wouldn't be a necessity to sell our next best guys like Doucs, Godfrey or Gray. If you add to that squad a DCL replacement CF and beef up the midfield with some proper Championship scrappers, probably while spending about half of what we get in, and maybe loan a couple of good young players from Chelsea as Lampard did at Derby, I think it'd be a good team for that level with the player sales and wage reduction cushioning the financial blow a bit. I know some are catastrophising it a bit but realistically we'd be much more setup for a Villa style bounceback than any sort of Sunderland style freefall.
