Unfortunately, the Clarets were unable to find a way to get through at Carrow Road, as the Canaries stamped all over any hopes of moving back within a point of the Toffees.

With eight games to play, a four-point gap is not insurmountable, but it felt like a chasm on Sunday night. And you wonder whether this setback was the death knell for Burnley’s hopes of avoiding a return to the Championship after six years. Right now, you would imagine it would take maybe four wins from the final eight games to give the Clarets a chance of survival. But when you have only won four of 30, it puts it all into perspective.

And things don’t get any easier. Although Burnley play three times before Leeds play again – sitting nine points behind the Whites – in which time Everton play once, the Clarets face a tough assignment at West Ham on Easter Sunday, who are top five in terms of home form. And they then host Southampton in a re-arranged game, before Wolves – with the fifth-best away record – come to Turf Moor.

We’ve just gotta take care of our own business at home, try and nick something from the away games and we will be sound - if they show the effort, commitment and desire to battle and fight as they did against utd then we will be fine, but Saturday performance has to kick start us. Didn’t think I’d be saying this but I’m hoping Delph can stay fit, thought he was great.

I don’t think Leeds are out of it yet, or Newcastle - there’s more twists and turns to come and I hope it’s us twisting and turning our way up the league table.

There really is a huge amount of gloom surrounding that club.

I think the the hope of Wednesday night being followed by the disappointment of the weekend has amplified the effect of this defeat.

Whereas we’ve bounced in precisely the opposite direction.

It’s crazy how much and how quickly perceptions can change.

This is the pertinent statistic. Even allowing for the often bizarre results we see at the end of any season, Burnley have to double their wins total for the whole season in the next eight matches - and that only "gives the Clarets a chance of survival."

If they win those four - and lose the other four - we would need nine points from our last eight games to stay up. That's three wins, or two wins and three draws from eight. That's doable. And our "doable" starts to become even more doable if Burnely cannot manage the four wins.

There will be plenty twists and turns to come yet, but if we cannot get 8-10 points from here, well, we can't complain.

Really expected Burnley to look at our players body language after the final whistle on Wednesday and think they were basically home and hosed.

We looked shattered, didn't really expect anything coming into the weekend and on the face of such a dramatic reversal I am trying to caution myself against expecting it to now be plain sailing.
