I think our win yesterday definitely did psychological damage to Burnley. Had we lost then they would’ve been quite content with a turgid draw to take them out of the drop zone on goal difference. I think they were deflated by our win and felt the pressure.

Still rather worried that Burnley beat a tired West Ham next week and we lose to Leicester, making it wide open again. We’ll see.

We all thought we’d lose to United and resurgent Burnley would wipe the floor with relegated Norwich and the exact opposite happened.

It's going to be decided at our game against Palace. Needs to be done before the Arsenal game so Goodison needs to be a cauldron that evening.

With it looking likely that a low-mid 30’s points total being enough for safety. One things for certain, whichever teams go down this year absolutely 100% deserves to.

Totally agree, we been the worse team in the league since Oct yet some how not in the bottom 3.

Everton 28 Burnley 24...

On the plus side for us: 4 home games - 3 with a shout at winning, more so because Palace may be on FA Cup Final mode, Brentford safe (one presumes otherwise we've picked up some points) and we've had prep time for Leicester. Chelsea isn't a total write off but will be tough. On our travels.. there's little positive except Leicester we have a shot at a point, Watford are as bad as us, the Derby will need a miracle but we will at least be up for it and Arsenal is at least a critical game (for us) if it comes down to it..

Burnley - their 8 games - Wolves, Saints, Villa and last game home to Newcastle all offer some real chances of points. Away: West Ham post Lyon they have a shout, Spurs looks tough, Villa (again) and Watford are real good opportunities

I would say that Everton might get 4-10 pts at home and 1 to 5 away - so an average of 10 (7 plus 3).
Burnley at best could get 4 to 10 at home and 3 to 7 away - so an average of 12..

Right now we're about 2 points better off than Burnley as an average assessment which is too close to call.. 75-25 to us right now but it could be brutal.

Think Dalglish tried a similar trick in 94... his Blackburn side were guaranteed second so they did naff all at home against Ipswich, who were a pub team with a PL badge on their sleeve.

Ended up shafting Sheff and not us though.

However, for every Dalglish there's a Vialli. Always welcome at Goodison that man.

I think Gerrard will have to win as many games as he can to convince that he's good enough for the Villa job. Gifting 6 points to Burnley won't go down well with Villa fans and hierarchy

Just hoping Stevie Gs ego gets the better of him and he tries to get as many points as possible but it's def a worry they're safe with no chance of Europe and have to play Burnley twice

Think he be more concerned with his job then us, they got battered 5-0 the other day and been on a bad run, if he let Burnley win twice then Villa are 6 points of relegation

It's just so hard to predict.
Look at Leeds winning at Wolves, Brentford hammering Chelsea.

I just wish we'd got a draw at Burnley as that would have made a huge difference.

But no point looking back or worrying about Burnley. Lampard needs to transmit the ruthless streak he had as a player into our lot.

Burnley give up far too much ball and space in the midfield area. Any team with half a cogent idea at how to attack them (in other words if we had more than Gordon and Richo to threaten them with) will get a win and/or hold them to nil in most games.

Burnley havnt scored in 5/6 games and we gifted them all 3 goals

I'm projecting their realistic chances against ordinary opposition - they might beat all of Wolves, Saints, Villa, Newcastle at home but it's very unlikely. Much more likely is 2 wins 2 draws or similar - perhaps 1 win 2 draw. As far as away goes - Watford and Villa are good chances. I'd expect them to win at Watford but they might get 2 draws in those two games. The range expected will be between those points - so if you take an average you get around 12 points. I agree 8 is more realistic but we've all seen struggling teams win their last three before now. And I don't want to rely on Burnley simply falling apart - we have to assume they will be competitive right to the death and we therefore need 3 or so wins.
