Relegation Thread 25-26

what because they’ve won their first home game since february in what is turning out to possibly be the tighest premier league in recent memory , perhaps ever?

theyre still crap with a fanbase ready to turn on them at a moments notice, they can deffo go down. dreams do come true

I’ve been pretty consistent since Nuno came in that I don’t think they’ll go down. Got nothing to do with their win today, I think their squad has too much quality and they won’t be relegated, same with Forest.

both definitely have better squads than burnley and leeds but absolutely barmy/horrendous owners and some frailties in their side

i think they are more likely to stay up than the two mentioned but not sure how anyone can be sure, league is very competitive and tight this year

Think it'll start to turn if we get legged tomorrow night
Things will start to get very ugly very quickly if we do. The Fulham game will be absolutely must-win because quite obviously United will turn us over at Old Trafford. It's usually their easiest game of the season.

Then it's Newcastle, Bournemouth, Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal, Burnley and Forest away to end the calendar year — all games will be like we're a man down from the first whistle due to such horrifically ineffective striking options.

Very realistic chance of bottom three January first I am afraid. Anybody who thinks Beto or Barry will suddenly 'click', or that Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall, Gueye, Garner are going on a mad goal-scoring run is deluded.

As a fanbase we really need to stop being so anxiety riddled and doom mongering.

We earned the points to finish 12th in Dyches only full season, that was with all the chaos off the pitch.

We earned the points to finish 13th with Moyes' recovery last season.

The above was with the likes of Demarai Gray and Jack Harrison on the wings. Not to mention Jesper Lindstrom...

We've since just spent a club record amount in the summer, and have a much better side, under a more capable manager. Sure, we still lack balance with no full backs, and a chronic lack of pace - but give it until at least January until you start stressing. Your blood pressure will thank you.

Everyone else in the league has also spent a fortune and improved and the promoted teams actually look competent. This isn’t going to be anything like the previous two seasons.

We should be targeting Europe with what we have. Apart from a regular slotter we have a lot of class in the squad now.

I think we have a top 8 squad.

It is much tougher to stay up if the newly promoted teams are succeeding. I am stunned by Sunderland thus far, but it is looking like we may be back to the situation where you need to get very close to 40 points to survive. While I eventually think Everton gets close to 50, one really bad 5-6 game streak can put you in a danger spot suddenly.

Even just comparing to the last two seasons, after 10 games, 18th was on 5 points. They're on 7 now. 2 points the difference.

Then consider the last 2 seasons we've been closer to Europe than Relegation. And as I say, we then spent a club record amount and have the likes of Grealish instead of McNeil and Dewsbury-Hall instead of Doucoure.

We started the season with Moyes talking about Europe. And rightly so.

The major difference is that none of the bottom 3 (promoted teams) hit 30 points in the last two seasons. One of them is already over half way to that tally, and the other two are both in the double figures.

As far as the club record amount thing goes, I’m pretty sure we spent more in the 2017/18 summer but it’s by the by really isn’t it. We had to replace 10 players and the money we’ve spent has helped us stand still at best. Everyone around us already had settled squads and has spent the same or more than us improving it. We are also without our best defender for the entire season and he hasn’t been replaced, maybe Moyes talking about Europe was based on the assumption we’d have him available.

We aren’t challenging for Europe and our fans need to get that idea out of their heads. This squad is severely lacking and our transfer window was a shambles.

It's like having an expensive set of golf clubs but no putter — you'd embarrass yourself every time you played and absolutely not be expected to challenge for anything other than the wooden spoon.
