Relegation Thread 25-26

In the premier league you often do spend £100m to stand still. That's one of the issues with PSR. If we really wanted to improve the squad to a point where we were 10 to 12 points better off a season, we may need to spend £300m, not £100m.

We have got slightly better quality footballers than we had in the 23/24 season, in certain positions (Grealish instead of Harrison, KDH instead of Doucoure). But there are still fundamental issues with the fullbacks and strikers and certain areas, like defensive midfield, where we look light if 1 player is missing.

I would also say that Ashley Young was one of our better Fullbacks and we have not replaced him and

Onana was a better CM than Irogbunam
Only just, which doesn't say too much for either tbh

what questions? and who are you asking them to?

I’d expect the Friedkins would be asking them to Kinnear. Questions like:

Considering we’ve invested 100 million plus for no tangible improvement, what assurances can you give that any more money we give you will lead to improvement?

Why did previous squads of lower quality players and a lower quality manager get the same amount of points as this squad?

Why did you spend money on players like Aznou Alcaraz Dibling who the manager doesn’t play, and 30 mill on a forward who has taken half a season to get upto speed?

They’re the type of questions that get asked if we finish below a mid 50s target in my opinion.

I think being honest we are in the exact type of league position currently that we deserve to be. However forest could overtake us soon and possibly fulham.
We need to stay in touch with the top half and fix the glaring issues in January. If we could somehow sign Toney and a right back i think we could then make a push for the top half. Failure to do that and we do risk getting involved in a relegation battle if one of the teams below picks up form.

But that is the "prune juice effect" of the premier league giving out massive amounts of prize money. All the premier league teams spend big sums of money. If you look at what other clubs in the league spent, we are 13th in terms of expenditure. £100m doesn't buy a team full of superstars like it would have in the 90's.

We have had a previous regime that signed sub standard players on massive contracts and we have had to sell our best player every season for the past 3 seasons to try to lessen the PSR impact. If the Friedkins were not aware of this I would be surprised.

Last season alone we had; DCL, Doucoure, and Young released for nothing and struggled to hold onto our best players. We also had loan players, Mangala, Lindstrom and Broja and Jack Harrison some were first team regulars when fit. When you looked at the overall squad once the loan players and free transfers left we needed 10 players in the summer, just to have 2 players for each position.

Its still early to judge the players we have signed, but none of them are the finished product. If Barry was a 10 goal a season premier league striker he would have been £60m not £30m

I’ll be disappointed with 50 as a max limit. The squad in 23/24 is much worse than this one and got 48 points amidst the issues of two points deductions and failed takeovers.

If we’ve poured over 100 mill in it should be targeting mid 50s as a par performance for me.

Grealish Ndiaye Dewsbury Hall Dibling Alcaraz Rohl are all much better options than anything we had in 23/24.

Don't think there are enough goals in the final third. Teams that get close to 55-60 points usually have CFs scoring more than five goals a season.

Also not keeping another clean sheets but hopefully Branthwaite can still play some part in second half of the season and change that.
