Relegation rivals thread

If we do win Baines penalty 1-0. Niasse being gone for two games is devastating at the moment. Calvert Lewin needs to start to find the net or else we will fall into obscurity. I hate watching other teams to flub up hoping we can skim bye. We need to somehow hit a new gear.

West Ham & Crystal Palace have now lost Obiang & Zaha respectively. Again, both big blows for their clubs (perfect timing for us with Palace up next 'n all).

Not sure I like the title of this thread. I mean, if it was 'Title' rivals' or 'FA Cup' rivals I would think it was teams we were competing against to win the league or cup. We aren't competing with other teams to get relegated. Maybe 'Not getting relegated' or 'trying to stay in the prem' rivals would be better.

Think we all get what he means mate

Zaha is understood to have sustained the injury during the first half at Selhurst Park on Sunday. He is expected to miss at least four weeks in the latest setback for the manager, Roy Hodgson.

The goalkeeper Julian Speroni and defender Martin Kelly were also both due to be sent for scans on knee and hamstring injuries on Monday, with Scott Dann, Jason Puncheon, Jeffrey Schlupp, Connor Wickham and Reuben Loftus-Cheek already among the long-term absentees.

Their top scorer, Bakary Sako, was ruled out for the rest of the season last week with a fractured ankle and damaged ligaments the Mali international suffered in the draw with West Ham last week and Zaha’s absence would leave Hodgson with only Christian Benteke, Andros Townsend and the new signing Alexander Soroth as attacking options.

Two fellow January arrivals, Jaroslaw Jach and Erdal Rakip, have yet to be included in a first-team squad, although the latter did score for the Under 23s in Monday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton. Palace are 14th in the table but only three points clear of the relegation zone. They face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday before successive fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Goodison will go nuclear on Saturday if we don't beat them.

Big Sam is happy to keep it tight for 80 minutes and try to contain their B team, then throw DCL on in a last-ditch attempt to nick the points, but ultimately end with 1 point from the game. You knows it.

West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku will serve a mandatory six game ban for spitting at an opponent, the Football Association has confirmed.

The ban compounds an injury crisis brewing at the club. Here’s the full list of sidelined Hammers:

Michail Antonio, midfielder – calf injury. Marko Arnautovic, attacker – thigh injury. Andy Carroll, attacker – foot injury. Edimilson Fernandes, midfielder – ankle injury. José Fonte, defender – ankle injury. Manuel Lanzini, midfielder – thigh injury. Mark Noble, midfielder – foot injury. Pedro Obiang, midfielder – knee injury. Winston Reid, defender – groin injury.

Diafra Sakho has gone to Stade Rennais; Andre Ayew has gone to Swansea.

Just as we are getting back to full strength.

And Swansea have a growing injury list too.

Carlos Carvalhal admitted it would be at least another month before Renato Sanches could make his Swansea City return as he revealed injuries to two more players.

The Swans are already reeling from long-term injuries to key duo Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony, suffered in the 1-1 draw with Leicester at the weekend, with Carvalhal adding that Leon Britton and Angel Rangel are struggling.

But Carvalhal insisted that when one Swan is down, "another can fly" after speaking at length about what new signings Andy King and Andre Ayew can offer.

Not that it affected them tonight. They now face Carlos Carvalhal's former side Sheffield Wednesday.

Unfortunately, Palace still have Christian Benteke, and Benteke enjoys playing against Everton. Five goals; one assist in eight games to date.

There are two ways of stopping Benteke;

1. Mark him tightly - surely we have a centre half who can do that.
2. Cut off his main source - surely our left back can mark Townsend.

I see what you mean.
