Well good luck to you and yours on your fasting.

When I was a lad at school Lent was still adhered to by a fair few people and you were supposed to give up something like sweets or cakes. Not that I ever recognised it like. It was rammed down you if you went to a faith school even in the 70s and early 80s.
Yes I have some not so fond memories of Catholic Christian brothers school in the 70's.

I shouldn't laugh really, some people were deeply affected by that type of schooling.
I was at Cardinal Godfrey on Breckfield Road South those Christian brothers were evil.
I would say I got the cane practically every day I was there. In those days every teacher carried a weapon.
Can't say I was particularity affected by it it was just the norm.
Great bunch of lads the Christian brothers hard but brutal.

Standard back then mate. I went to an ordinary RC Comp so I dont think you need to have run up against Jesuits to get a battering each day.

You know, I have no time for any religion, but by the same token I respect people's right to follow what they want to follow (whilst reserving the right to quietly think they are nuts and to openly dispute any human rights abuses that their religion might condone). There are aspects of all religions that I find nuts. As a lapsed Catholic, I've seen that at first hand. But, for all my criticism of the craziness of it all, if we were that bothered about players not being able to take in water or that we might lose players to religious feasts, then perhaps we should not have signed them.

We did, so we knew all this all along. Didn't we? Kev? Marcel? Bueller?
Like you say tho, each to there own. You have your beliefs, they have there beliefs.

That said, they had an excellent record when it came to turning out educated kids...if 'it' was in there, they brought...or flogged it out of you...usually both.

Anyway we're doing OK, for now, but that will change...and change back...and change etc.

It feels that way at the moment given how unpredictable the results have been.

That cant hold though. Already we're seeing cracks in the 'threatened 9'.

S'ton were handed a dodgy penalty against Spurs that allowed them to avoid being marooned, but they are a terrible team bar Ward-Prowse. They'll be cut adrift very soon. Forest are headed fast to the bottom. I dont see any possibility either of those two clubs avoid losing a lot of games in the next few weeks.

On the other hand we have clubs like Everton and now Leeds who are showing a lot of fight and ptting in some consistent performances.

I wish I shared your positives about the CB's. We had a 'strap' rather than a cane. Once I was sent to the headmasters office to fetch it (for my own beating of course) .examining it on my return I discovered it was handmade in Ireland. Imagine owning a company that specialised in products manufactured for beating children. Hopefully long gone now. Anyway.... relegation?
