I can understand the culture of it all. Any Christian can - lapsed or otherwise. But as you say, any 'just' God wouldn't inflict such strictures on their followers.

I'm not religious, so it's all barmy to me. But they can do what they want. It's their lives. I just react to it when it impacts on Everton.

Nor me. Christenings, weddings, funerals, thats my church attendance record.

Sake, just seen this is the relegation thread ffs! Soz mods.

You know, I have no time for any religion, but by the same token I respect people's right to follow what they want to follow (whilst reserving the right to quietly think they are nuts and to openly dispute any human rights abuses that their religion might condone). There are aspects of all religions that I find nuts. As a lapsed Catholic, I've seen that at first hand. But, for all my criticism of the craziness of it all, if we were that bothered about players not being able to take in water or that we might lose players to religious feasts, then perhaps we should not have signed them.

We did, so we knew all this all along. Didn't we? Kev? Marcel? Bueller?

Aye. As was I. One of my favourites.
Bit of an emotional one for me that,my old fella was going into BroadGreen for a triple heart bypass the next week,he was there that day,the worst thoughts go stupidly through your mind don’t they with your family?I remember coming out of Goodison and thinking if it was his last game it was a decent one😂anyhow he’s still here and a season ticket holder to this day🙏💙

Bloody hell mate. Good to hear he's doing alright now x

This is the concerning part.

IIRC against Burnley last season in that late KO Doucoure couldn't get liquids into him quick enough once he'd been told it was official sunset time.

I dont understand the, what are in effect, corporal punishments of organised religion. That goes for Christian Lent too, by the way.
Having spent some time in the middle east, the fasting during Ramadan was not enforced by the Mutawa or Religious (police) volunteers as few people eat or drink in public during Ramadan - even non-muslims. The hejiran calendar is about 400 years behind the western calendar. If you imagine how seriously christians took no meat fridays 400 years ago thats about equivalent to how serious many muslims are about their faith.
Our family btw has been experimenting with fasting recently for health reasons (my wife did a 48 hour fast last week) doing the 16/8 is really not that difficult.

Well good luck to you and yours on your fasting.

When I was a lad at school Lent was still adhered to by a fair few people and you were supposed to give up something like sweets or cakes. Not that I ever recognised it like. It was rammed down you if you went to a faith school even in the 70s and early 80s.
