I still think we'll stay up provided we get the right players during the current transfer window.

A lot of talk about are we a big club or not. I think this is a massive club, that's just been run into the ground over the past thirty plus years.

Pre Kenwright arriving on the board, only the rs had more league titles than Everton. I rest my case.
Mate changing manager is absolutely pivotal as well. Providing we get the right one

This is what I don't understand.
If the history is there to warrant being a big club what makes us not one all of a sudden.

I understand we are rubbish, not successful and miles off being successful but I think we are still the 4th/5th most successful club in English history.

Because we don’t act like it. The perception has slowly gained over the years because of a lack of success, lack of competitiveness.

What kind of big club endorses “knives to a gun fight” and “expected losses”

And over the years we have dropped in the domestic honours rankings whilst other clubs actually act like the big clubs they are and have either overtaken or significantly widened that gap.

There was times last season i was consumed by the thought of relegation and what it would mean for us, but this season I’ve got a proper “not even arsed” feeling about it.

Part of it is because I realise it’s pointless getting worked up over something I’ve got no control over.

But I think it’s mostly because the board are reaping what they’ve sown with the mismanagement of the club to this point.

No club that’s been ran this badly for this long deserves anything less.
We had our final chance to get off the relegation train in the summer. Back a manager who wants the type of players we need (young, resale value etc), but ended up doing the same thing we have done for the last 8 years now and forced crap PL rejects on managers who don't want them. We took a squad that barely stayed up and made it objectively worse. At what point do we stop baying for managerial blood and actually focus on who and what has led us here?

Every poster that calls for Lampard to be sacked without also making it clear that whoever is brought in will have the same crap players forced on them and the same expectiaton from fans to turn us into a steady team overnight with those players is as guilty as those in charge for the mediocrity that now grips the club from top to bottom.

It's nearly 2am and I'm still terror scrolling these forums. I did the same during COVID in the DM comments section.

Just can't believe the effect this is happening on me. Back in 2013 I was absolutely skint, and working a nothing PT job, but I was walkng around like a guy who had won the lottery after games like WHU away and after breaking the Old Trafford curse.

Today, nearly a decade on, it's the opposite. Doing reasonably well for myself, but I'm depressed 24/7 because of those shytehawks playing in blue and sullying that badge.

Maybe it's time to pack it all in? I was at the Palace game, and know full well Goodison won't see a night like that again.... unless we come from 2-0 down to beat, say, Plymouth 3-2 and seal instant promotion to the PL in 2023/24.

I'll never visit Goodison again as I feel like that was my final battle, and now I'm ready to pass this curse onto someone else.

True. Man United being the example. They had been relegated a few times and hadn’t won the league in years prior to Fergies time.

When the Premier League came about they had the right people in place, business men who had the foresight to see the money that could be made. They also heavily invested in their stadium.
Whilst our club was ran like an old boys club telling old football stories about what we did years ago. The only concern being making sure people in the boardroom are wearing the right colour tie.

Look at the Park End stand. Built cheap easy and quick for a single tier. Cheap easy and quick is how you make a cake, not how you run a Premier League football team. But that’s what we have been doing since the late 80’s.
So true. We actually had more leagues than Man Utd when the prem began.

Yes but unless you get up the following season it's financial suicide. If a few players not got relegation clauses you stuck with them as they not gonna move anywhere for 6 grand a week. Plus the selling price of the club will halve in value. We really in the mire at West Brom and possibly a Derby or Oldham situation happening in the foreseeable future
Bury, more like.

I can't tell if you're using it as a figure of speech or not but if you truly are feeling depressed talk to a doctor please mate.

That said yes if football is getting you that down you should probably try to wane off it a bit. I get that's hard. I'm honestly not sure I've got any good tips so sorry for that. I've just kind of stop letting losses bother me. It might just be getting numb to it. Not everyone does.
