relative media coverage

The worst thing for me about the media for me is that they are constantly trying to sell our top players to the top four clubs. This week it's Coleman and Barry.

I personally don't mind so much that we get fewer live matches (the lower crowds and the f****g about with KO times being just two reasons)-- it's the relative absence of any proper coverage of us (and many other big clubs) between games that bugs me. And what coverage there is is bog standard, unresearched stuff and does nothing to give the true picture as understood by the true support base eg that Moyes was far from universally liked by the support was never discussed, or even mentioned, on SSN or BBC. Meanwhile some of the truly big football stories affecting traditionally big clubs (eg the demise of the likes of Wolves) are totally ignored and not seriously aired.

On top of the TV ignorance, there is nowadays, somewhat perversely given the technology now available, the Londoncentric national Press coverage. In days gone by, all the popular morning national newspapers, had their sports pages tailored for the different regions. In the north west for example, you'd never see much written about the London clubs, however successful they were, until they came to town. Now, despite the ease with which newspapers could now be produced to be printed with different versions for different areas, we instead get the morning papers continually leading on Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs etc ie the regional variation is minimal from the London version. [Although somewhat bizarrely the Express distributed on Merseyside seems to focus on the north east clubs!] Everton rarely rate more than a couple of paragraphs in any paper. Young kids live off reading and hearing about their team. Pity they have to look so hard to find any [although on this last point, top marks to Alan Myers for clearly now pushing items about us down the line to SSN, who seem now to duly put them on, suggesting they are open to a proactive PR approach from clubs]

The newspapers were sussed when it turned out that regional versions of the papers carried the 'local' game report under the same by line in each edition...people queried how the reporter could be at three games at once !! ..and in response to the query a few pages back about the Sky coverage last Sunday being based at OT ...this would be more to do with logistics than club preference...it would be about location of equipment on the Saturday, availability of interviewees and presenters, etc. Even in these days of ease of travel, theres a lot of equipment to move and set up. A friend of mine sets up satellite links for Sky and Fox, and he lives in Lancashire..for a one day job its better to be closer to home, but for, say, Wimbledon, etc, or a big news story (bombs, assassinations, kuwait, all of which he's done, he moves to the particular area for the duration .

It would be great to vote with our feet and watch SKY and BT absolutely crap themselves.
It would have a massive effect on their income and they would have to act.

Seen as though Sky has over 18m TV customers UK Wide I don't think that
they'll miss the 30 Everton fans that can afford Sky......

We'd all get sick of it if we were in the media all the time I reckon

It would be nice if we got a reasonable increase in our coverage though

That's an interesting point mate.

Say we were mentioned and talked about more, there'd probably be just as much fuming with people disagreeing with what was said!

We are struggling, like Man U are struggling.

I'd much rather have that being reported, than some nonsense about how a club like Everton are ecstatic to finish in the top 8.

Sort of see your point but struggling suggests a bottom 3 league placing, which we're nowhere near.

We shouldn't be happy with 6th though. Need to aim higher.

I read sky's Paul mersons piece on their website before the spurs Everton game.He said spurs will have too much for us because villa gave us such a hard time last week and villa are no spurs. Rubbish lazy journalism I bet he did not see 1 minute of our game against the villains, clown.

I wonder did he actually write it? He's usually sound about us.

Simply by picking the ****e so often Sky are basically gifting them a new player ever season.

4 defeats all season isn't struggling, no matter what way is tried to be painted.

LFC & Spurs have both only won 2 of their last 4 games, 1 game better than us, yet Liverpool are being painted as world beaters.

I agree with some things posted. But simply calling United "7th placed and 20th placed PL sides". Is a bit daft.

They are still the Champions, and the biggest club in the country, they are big news.

Liverpool are also one of the biggest clubs in the Country, and Suarez is one of the the best players, who is often involved in dodgy decisions, hence it being big news.

I think they are talking rubbish, irrespective of 'form'.

Both Liverpool & Spurs have only 2 wins in their last 4 league games, if we're talking 'form'.

It was a six pointer v Spurs - and unfortunate things happened we lost in an awful way we should have had one point or at least 3 points us and the ref seen to that!
