People got the idea that strolling through a Postecoglou Spurs side last season was somehow
Moyes finding the magic touch when what they were actually watching was one of the most magnificently inept defensive performances of the PL era. Spurs were jaw droppingly bad that afternoon and Leicester were nearly as bad afterwards.
But the big wins mean people understandably don't dwell on the poor elements of the performance.
The difference in quality of performance between the loss against Spurs this season and the win at home to Brighton for instance really wasn't that big. Brighton could have comfortably mullered us if they had their shooting boots on just as we could have had something against Spurs if we had ours.
We have a few better players.
Grealish is obviously quality but some are going overboard and
KDH is a tidy player but in overall PL terms he isn't anywhere near elite level.
The squad still has gaps in quality and is still relying on players who have shown year after year they aren't good enough.
Moyes will still play that percentage play and when we get the rub of the green it'll look great, when we don't it'll look dour and pedestrian. That's just the way it pans out when you're an incredibly average side with glaring weaknesses in a league where nearly every lower to mid level team has
some touches of quality and the odd player or two capable of those little moments that make a difference.
