Tree's that is ! :P Real crimbo tree's or fake ones, which do you have ?

In my house we have a fake one but last year i bought a real one, someone told me you should water the thing as it helps to stop the pine needles from falling off.

Remembering the advice i proceeded to give it about a pint a day, by xmas day i could smell something nasty in the air but couldn't for the life of me figure out where it was coming from.

On boxing day the tree has a noticeable tilt to it, on investigating the bucket that it was in i almost passed out at the stench,

The tree was floating in mud/compost, hence the smell, i'd overwatered it to such an extent that it was in danger of falling over, a quick visit to the back garden to get a couple of bricks saved the day ( after emptying the sludge of course )

Anyway lads, enough about my troubles, how about you, real or fake ?

Real for me. The (proper) smell is awesome, you just need to monitor the tree better. Here we have these nifty stands that are anti-fungal/microbial that keep the resevoir as well.

Oh, they probably didn't cut it right. When you buy them, they normally cut it flat and wrap it to keep the moisture in, so you need to cut the diagonal in it so it drinks the water properly.

After saying all that, we have a fake tree right now as my daughter would wreak havock with a real tree. Next year though, a Blue Spruce will be mine.

Cheers for that Dylan, useful advice mate, and your right about the smell, i prefer real as well, but just like you, my kids, at least when they where younger, would have done themselves an injury with a real one in the house, those pine needles are nasty little buggers.

I was wrapping Christmas trees at the garden centre on Saturday  It was very fun

We always go for a real one, then always remember why we said last year that we'll get a fake one next time.

Real. We've got a lot of the old German wooden ornaments that we've picked up over the years and they wouldn't look right on a fake one.

You'd be surprised at the quality these days. Ours looks like a real tree at any other distance except right next to it.

On the plus side for real trees, I have hardwood floors downstairs, so those pine needles vacuum right up :D

I like to chop a nice big oak tree down for easter, slap it in the kitchen.

And slicing a few birch trees in time for New year always gives the lounge that certain bit of - je ne sais quoi.

Well, they're all farmed aren't they? So, not really.

I just think it's mental.

I think a lot of things are mental and pointless though, but people still enjoy them.

You weird, weird Pagans.

Ha. Here Santa Claus doesn't come at Christmas, he comes on December 6 and he brings the Krampus with him the night before...

In some rural areas also slight birching especially of young females by the Krampus is part of tradition.
