I've heard a few old players talking about him today and they all talk about how well mannered he was. Seems to have been well liked and gentlemanly. 61 is no age to be dying.

He seemed like a genuinely great bloke with so many people saying the exact same things about him, telling stories of his generosity.

Kindness is a trait which doesn’t seem to be valued as highly as it once was, which is a shame. Wilkins had it in lorry loads.

Not sure he ever put in a tackle did he? Good bloke for sure, but over rated as a player in my opinion.

Always struck me an intelligent player/man, not the most skillful, but made up for it with his professional attitude and sportsmanship. Sadly missed. Too damned young to be going so soon. RIP.

A fine player and by all accounts a true gentleman, which is a lovely epitaph for anyone. With his belief in passing the ball and maintaining possession he was probably ahead of his time. Bobby Brown Shoes would have gone into phenomenal raptures about him!

Nice fella, but remember the press & the public wanting him taken out of the England team because he never passed the ball forwards, only sideways, picked up the nickname "The Crab"
